7 Extremely Underrated Sitcoms to Watch on Netflix in December 2023

There are some great comedy shows on Netflix that just don’t get the praise they deserve. Here, we highlight seven of the most underrated sitcoms available to stream now:

1. Still Game (9 seasons, 62 episodes)

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 95%

Beginning as a stage show before being adapted for television, Still Game follows the exploits of two Scottish pensioners, Jack and Victor. Both widowers, the two are childhood friends who share a deep bond - even if it's not always obvious.

Still living in a tower block on the fictional Craiglang estate in Glasgow, they do their best to make the most of their later years.

Think Last of the Summer Wine, but with humour.

2. Lunatics (1 season, 10 episodes)

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 88%

Aussie comic Chris Lilley stars as six different characters in this mockumentary. The show follows the lives of each character over a period of months, with none of them being quite what you expected them to be when you met them.

It’s odd, unique and very funny.

3. Man vs Bee (1 season, 9 episodes)

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 74%

A comedy show starring Rowan Atkinson that has somehow gone under the radar. A wealthy couple hire a new house sitter named Trevor Bingley (Atkinson). Alone in their house, Trevor soon finds himself at odds with a bee. Disaster and hilarity ensue as Rowan Atkinson does what only Rowan Atkinson can do.

It's got all the slapstick silliness of Mr Bean and is just delightful.

4. Teenage Bounty Hunters (1 season, 10 episodes)

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 96%

A pair of high school twins dent their dad's pickup truck and have to pay for the repairs. So they become bounty hunters (not that their parents know about their side hustle).

The script is packed with jokes and strong comic performances from Maddie Philips and Anjelica Bette Fellini. The chemistry between the two lifts the show to another level and it received largely positive reviews on release.

Despite this, Netflix decided not to pick it up for a second season. But that doesn't take anything away from it being a great comedy.

5. Disenchantment ( 3 seasons, 50 episodes)

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 78%

Created and developed by Matt Groening, this animated comedy has all the hallmarks of his work. Set in the fictional world of Dreamland, it's basically a fairy tale for adults.

The main character, Bean, is a rebellious princess with a taste for liquor and a sense of adventure. This show brings in elements of the fantasy worlds of Harry Potter and Game of Thrones for a touch of familiarity, and is just plain fun.

6. Crashing (1 season, 6 episodes)

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 89%

Before Fleabag, Phoebe Waller-Bridge wrote and starred in this short comedy series about a bunch of property guardians. A group of twentysomethings agree to live in and look after a disused hospital in exchange for cheap rent.

Naturally, living so close together leads to all sorts of tensions, ranging from romantic to frustrated. It's funny, authentic and (with only six episodes) very bingeable.

7. Cunk on Earth (1 season, 5 episodes)

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 100%

Created by Charlie Brooker and starring Diane Morgan, Cunk on Earth follows Philomena Cunk as she explores the history of civilization. The only problem is that Philomena Cunk knows absolutely nothing about anything.

A mockumentary, the show sees Cunk interviewing real experts on topics such as ancient history, religion, space exploration and the world wars. With just five episodes, each lasting less than half an hour, this is a must-see.
