Every genre veteran would agree that modern horror movies can beat even the scariest classics of the 20th century. Indeed, since 2000 we saw so many worth-watching horrors it’s hard to rank them. Luckily, Reddit has recently done it for us one more time.

7. The Ring (2002)
Everyone remembers that female ghost with long black hair coming out of the TV. Yes, it comes from this cultish horror that can still rob you of sleep with its “disturbing tape, eerie vibe and the silent atmosphere”, as voiced by @TheHeavenlyStar.
6. Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Next is a movie that blends horror, comedy and science fiction elements and does it perfectly. The story of college students who fall victim to a bunch of monsters in a remote cabin in the forest is full of unpredictable twists and creepy jumpscares.
5. Let the Right One In (2008)
“A different/fresh take at the time on the vampire genre combined with a few scares and great storytelling,” says Redditor @YSoSeri0u5 about it. Indeed, this romantic horror appears to be quite inventive and can still keep you on the edge of your seat.
4. The Descent (2005)
This horror is not as recognized as other entries in today’s list, but, nevertheless, it’s worth a watch too. Following a group of women who enter a mysterious cave and confront the monstrous humanoid creatures inside, it’ll give you lots of goosebumps.
3. The Witch (2015)
Anya Taylor-Joy’s horror talent shines bright in this folk horror that focuses on a family haunted by a series of supernatural events happening to them. This A24 flick set new standards back in the 2010s and turns out to be really rewatchable now.
2. 28 Days Later ( 2002)
Here comes one of Cillian Murphy ’s best movies, set in a post-apocalyptic future London inhabited by a handful of survivors of a deadly virus. It is the most iconic horror of its kind that paved the way for all modern zombie horrors.
1. Train to Busan (2016)
Finally, there is another zombie flick, but this time created by South Korean filmmakers and added by its adrenaline-pumping narration and spectacular scary parts. Here a train gets attacked by hundreds of zombies, and this plot promises a fun ride.
