6 Reasons The Notebook Is The Most Frustrating Movie Ever Made
Even 20 years later, this movie is just hard to watch because there are so many bad aspects and lost potential to it.
The Notebook, a romantic drama film starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, premiered nearly 20 years ago to mixed reviews.
Frankly, it is one of the most frustrating movies ever made, and we have six arguments to prove our point.
6. The relationship is totally toxic
Our main couple, Noah and Allison, definitely need therapy. Their entire "romantic" relationship is nothing but psychological manipulation on both sides, including threats of suicide, gaslighting, and even physical abuse at times.
And the worst part is that the movie presents all of this as something quaint and heartwarming. It is not.
5. Just marry James Marsden
Usually when a romantic movie introduces a supporting character for one of our leads to almost marry, he or she is usually flawed.
But James Marsden's Lon Hammond Jr. is a perfectly normal guy who is charming, caring, understanding, rich and handsome. It is beyond our comprehension why Allison didn't choose him over her troubled relationship with Noah.
4. The plot is just bad
At its core, The Notebook is every romantic movie you have seen a thousand times, with little new to add. You can predict the events within the first few minutes, and that is exactly how the story unfolds.
3. They didn't deserve such great actors
One of the few things that was praised about the movie was its leads, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, who look beautiful on screen.
It takes real talent to make such badly written characters bearable and sometimes even make you forget how stupid the plot is. And that only makes the movie more frustrating.
2. There are glimpses of a great movie
Speaking of good things, some moments in the story are really good, which is a stark contrast to the rest of the movie, which is just illogical.
Seeing the lost potential for a great movie just adds to the disappointment.
1. Geese are not romantic
Have you ever met a goose in real life? They are hissing spawn of Satan, trying to pinch you painfully if you get too close. So why is there a "romantic" scene full of them and not, say, swans?
For those familiar with these creatures, it definitely gave some horror vibes, as there are just too many of them.
