Because we can’t live without them.

The South Korean industry took the world by storm almost a decade ago, and since then, they have been releasing many K-dramas every month that end up being successful hits. With the recent K-drama Queen of Tears becoming the all-time favorite among viewers, it seems like a tough deal to try to top it.

But every time the fans think so, the next series ends up being so much better than everyone expected. So here is the list of some new K-dramas that will be released in May so that you can start planning your TV schedule.

1. Frankly Speaking

May 1

Frankly Speaking revolves around a man named Song Ki-baek, an extremely well-mannered TV announcer who is considered one of the best in the business. One day, he is suddenly struck by a disorder that causes him to speak out all his unfiltered thoughts. Can you imagine the chaos this causes in his professional life? The show will be available to stream on Netflix.

2. The Atypical Family

May 4

Another 12-episode fantasy K-drama will center on a young man named Bok Gwi-joo, who comes from a family with different kinds of superpowers. His special skill is having the ability to time travel and revisit the happiest things that ever happened to him. But as it turned out, the superpower became the reason he developed depression and lost his power…

Along with him, other members of the family started losing their special skills, all due to mental problems and things like eating disorders, smartphone addiction and insomnia. The Atypical Family premieres on JTBC.

3. The Midnight Romance at Hagwon

May 11

Get ready to fall in love with this 16-episode K-drama that promises you a perfect love story from the creator of K-dramas One Spring Night and Something in the Rain. At the center of a new rom-com is the “opposites attract trope,” as the series follows a modest and determined tutor Seo Hye-jin who is literally perfect in everything.

But one day a former troublemaker student of the academy where she works comes back to become a new tutor. And that’s the day her life changes. The Midnight Romance at Hagwon premieres on tvN, and will also be available to stream on TVING.

4. Dare to Love Me

May 13

Another romance that will premiere soon is Dare to Love Me, which is based on a 2021 webtoon called Treat Me Carelessly. The main couple of this K-drama is quite controversial, as it's a Confucian scholar Shin Yun-bo (who lives by his strong beliefs) and his reckless art teacher Kim Hong-do.

The two are complete opposites and have literally nothing in common. But as their love blossoms, they discover that they have so much in common that they never realized. Dare to Love Me premieres on KBS2.

5. Crash

May 13

K-dramas love to follow strong-willed and truly dedicated people who are excellent at their jobs, but are held back by a lack of social skills or some absurd general ability. At the center of Crash is the talented policeman Cha Yeon-ho, who is transferred to the Traffic Crime Investigation Team, and we witness his struggles as he tries to adjust.

However, life becomes easier when he meets his new colleagues and they seem to be on the same wavelength. Crash premieres on ENA.
