6 Great Shows You Didn't Know Were Canceled in 2024 by Netflix, Max & More
RIP to these beloved shows.

Our Flag Means Death ( 2022)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 94%
Where To Stream: HBO Max
Number of Seasons: 2
If there ever was a 'Little Show That Could' it would be OFMD, a cheerfully violent and deeply sincere show about queer pirates who like to talk about their feelings.
Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) is a gentleman who dreams of a life of piracy but is at heart a naive fop. Blackbeard (Taika Waititi ) is a borderline psychopath who has a heart of gold somewhere underneath all of his murderous impulses. It takes a few episodes for the two to pair up, but when they do it's magic.
The fanbase was too small for the show to last into a third season, but what a fierce and committed fanbase it is! Luckily the creators suspected that this might be the end, and while the second season left some doors open it nevertheless wrapped everything up nicely.

The Flight Attendant ( 2020)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 91%
Where To Stream: HBO Max
Number of Seasons: 2
Titular flight attendant Cassie (Kaley Cuoco ) is an alcoholic who spends her time flying around the world, drinking too much, and having anonymous affairs. One morning in Bangkok, Cassie wakes up with no memory of the night before and a dead man in her bed. A funny, twisty thriller proceeds from there.
By all rights, The Flight Attendant should have been a limited series – the mystery is wrapped up at the end of season one. Season two has Cassie working part time as a CIA asset, and the silly new plot couldn't hold its audience. In spite of the show's lingering popularity, it wasn't a huge shock when HBO Max decided to move on.
-
Rap Sh!t (2022)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 100%
Where To Stream: HBO Max
Number of Seasons: 2
Hitmaker Issa Rae (Insecure) created this series about two estranged high school friends who meet up decades later. When they make a rap video for fun and it goes viral, the two women decide to try and make it big in the music industry.
Rap Sh!t got rave reviews from critics, whose consensus on Rotten Tomatoes reads: 'Issa Rae's razor-sharp sensibility is fully felt in Rap Sh!t, a raucous chronicle of female camaraderie and youthful ambition.' But in spite of two straight years of excellence, Rap Sh!t was canceled by Max in early 2024.
-
Ratched (2020)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 62%
Where To Stream: Netflix
Number of Seasons: 1
This Netflix series tells the backstory of Nurse Ratched, the villain of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. Fans have been wondering for a long time when they would get the second installment – after all, the series was originally ordered for two seasons, only to be interrupted by the pandemic.
It's been four years since Ratched dropped on Netflix, but producer Ryan Murphy and star Sarah Paulson have only just confirmed that the promised second season will never arrive. Lukewarm reviews and an expensive production budget probably contributed to the decision.
-
Schmigadoon! (2021)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 93%
Where To Stream: Apple TV+
Number of Seasons: 2
Theatre nerds got the rug pulled out from under them with the news that Schmigadoon!'s third season – apparently already written, complete with 25 musical numbers – will never be filmed.
The decision may not come as a total shock. Schmigadoon! was always a niche show that was difficult to fully appreciate unless you knew the musicals it was constantly parodying (and what excellent parody it was!) Still, with a cast this outrageously talented and a concept so outrageously fun, it's a shame we won't get to see what magical musical land Mel (Cecily Strong) and Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) will stumble into next.
-
Julia (2022)
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 96%
Where To Stream: Amazon Prime
Number of Seasons: 2
Is there a cultural figure more joyful than Julia Child, who brought cooking to the masses with her infectious laugh? Critics and audiences loved this take on Child's life, which focused not only on Julia's cooking but also her pioneering effects on television.
But even stellar reviews from both critics and audiences couldn't save this show, which apparently wasn't pulling high enough numbers to warrant a third season.
