Each of these shows is worth your time.
If you're trying to find new shows with truly original storylines that will keep you hooked from start to finish, Prime Video can always help.
Here are six great shows on Prime that have received rave reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
6. The New Legends of Monkey (2020, 2 seasons)
This Australian/New Zealand-produced series is inspired by a Japanese show that ran from 1978 to 1980, which was itself an adaptation of a classic 16th-century Chinese novel. The New Legends of Monkey focuses less on the religious overtones of the original and more on the adventures of the monk Tripitaka, the Monkey King, and their friends. A unique feature of the series is that the monk's identity is assumed by his adopted daughter, a teenage girl.
5. Exosquad (1993, 2 seasons)
When we think of '90s animated shows, we think of action-packed adventure series like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or sitcoms from The Simpsons to King of the Hill and even Daria. Bright, colorful visuals and uplifting life stories. Exosquad, however, while maintaining the same neon color scheme and cartoony character designs, has a darker tone, offering a mature story about the realities of warfare that made the series a cult classic.
On the one hand, Exosquad attempted to be a new G.I. Joe in a space setting, following a group of elite troops fighting in the solar system. On the other, the plot revolves around a war against an artificially created race that has rebelled against oppression and slavery.
4. The Lazarus Project (2022, 2 seasons)
The series was developed by Joe Barton, creator of the critically acclaimed crime thriller Giri/Haji and the recent Netflix hit The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself. The Lazarus Project is an interesting concept that takes the best of the time-travel genre and focuses on the trolley problem, whether the lives of family and friends are worth the lives of countless strangers.
At the center of the plot is George, who experiences a sort of Groundhog Day, being the only one who realizes that every few months he relives July 1. This is a natural ability of his body, and so George is picked up by a secret organization that performs time resets to prevent apocalyptic scenarios. But one day, George must make a difficult choice — save his girlfriend or the lives of millions.
3. Beforeigners (2019, 2 seasons)
There have been many attempts to combine time travel fiction and detective stories, but the Norwegian sci-fi crime drama Beforeigners has been particularly successful. According to the show's setting, migrants arrive in Norway not only from other countries, but also from other historical periods, including the Stone Age, the Viking Age, and the 19th century. Each tries to assimilate into a new society, but some keep their old ways, like killing without mercy. The plot revolves around an Oslo detective and his new colleague, a Viking shield-maiden who takes a job with the police.
2. Eerie, Indiana (1991, 2 seasons)
Stranger Things is far from the only show featuring a group of teenagers experiencing the horrors of suburban Indiana. This unfairly overlooked horror series follows a teenage boy who moves with his family to a small Indiana town inhabited by extremely bizarre people. There he meets an equally ordinary teenager, and together the two begin to encounter supernatural events based on urban legends. What makes Eerie, Indiana special is its all-ages versatility while still being a decent horror series, balancing the darkness of The Twilight Zone with the comedy of Goosebumps.
1. Infinity Train (2019, 4 seasons)
This Cartoon Network animated series has delighted critics and viewers alike with its humor and attention to character, their experience and development — much like the equally acclaimed Over the Garden Wall, also produced by CN. The plot follows a 13-year-old girl who, as the title suggests, finds herself on a never-ending train full of eccentric characters, mystery and adventure.
