If anything can ruin it more than 2 years of waiting.

Everyone is champing at the bit for another season of Bridgerton, but that doesn’t mean that any and every plot development would be welcome.

Here are 5 theories about Season 3 that, if true, would be frustrating or just downright weird.

  1. Colin becomes a rake

Colin already had a glow-up between his sweet, gullible Season 1 self and the world traveler of Season 2. One fan theory states that he will evolve even further this year, sleeping his way across Europe to become the suave and highly experienced Sex Wizard that he (and every other Bridgerton boy) is in the books. But we’ve already had Simon and Anthony fill that niche – so please let Colin be Colin! Not every hero needs to be a rake.

  1. There will be a major time jump

If the show’s timeline follows the books, Bridgerton could choose to jump as far ahead as 1824 – a full ten years after the events of Season 2! But last season ended with Eloise and Penelope on the outs for the first time ever, Benedict giving up his artistic dream, and Kanthony newly married.

Jumping ahead in time at all (let alone by a whole decade!) would mean missing the next steps of all of these juicy storylines.

  1. Queen Charlotte dies

In real life, Queen Charlotte died in 1818, so if Bridgerton chooses to jump ahead in time it’s possible that we’d lose this beloved character. And come on – who wants that? Bridgerton has ignored and rewritten history oodles of times, so long live the Queen! As far as we’re concerned, Charlotte should rule England for 300 years and then take off in a rocketship to gloriously reign over outer space.

  1. Another love triangle

We know that we’ll be introduced to three handsome new society gentlemen in Season 3… presumably to make Colin jealous when someone else pays attention to Penelope. But please please please, let’s not have another love triangle! There are lots of obstacles for young love, especially in the Regency – let’s not go down this road again!

  1. Eloise becomes friends with Cressida

On paper, this theory makes sense. Last season saw a massive fight between Eloise and Penelope, and it might seem realistic for Eloise to get her revenge by teaming up with Pen’s worst enemy.

But however rational it would be in theory (and however much juicy drama it would generate) it would be a grotesque and out-of-character move for Eloise to become friends with Pen’s long-time bully.

Season 3 of Bridgerton will start streaming on Netflix in early 2024.
