It's hard to deny the cultural contribution that The Twilight Saga has made, both as a series of novels and as a five-part film adaptation. For many, this vampire franchise was an introduction to the world of young adult fiction, romantic tropes and clichés, fandoms, and endless wild fanfics. No less influential on pop culture were the actors who portrayed the now iconic characters — Robert Pattinson alone is responsible for the Internet's obsession.

Even though the films were a breakthrough for Pattinson and allowed to establish himself as one of the most talented and charismatic actors in modern Hollywood, he has never been shy about the negative feelings towards Twilight. Over the years, the actor has certainly reconsidered his stance, remembering those years of filming with much more warmth, but even now he often criticizes Edward and Bella's story. Let's take a look at the loudest statements of Robert Pattinson, which absolutely destroyed The Twilight Saga.

5. The actor was happy when the franchise ended

With such a blatant aversion to Stephenie Meyer's work, the film adaptations, and the fan-fueled cult surrounding them, it's not surprising that Robert Pattinson was overjoyed when the pop culture madness finally came to an end. Breaking Dawn — Part 2 turned out to be the most commercially profitable installment of all time, grossing an impressive $848.6 million at the box office, and fans were both delighted and shocked.

Pattinson, however, was the only one who was shocked because of the ending: in a conversation with Chris Van Vilet, he called the story 'nuts,' as Edward literally had to perform a C-section on Bella by chewing through her placenta in a movie whose audience was largely made up of teenagers. When asked if he took anything from the set, he jokingly replied, 'My dignity.'

4. Pattinson would have been a hater even if he wasn't the star of the project

Pattinson's salary for the last few films in the Saga was a staggering $25 million per installment, and if you include revenues, the amount was up to $40 million. In comparison, according to Celebrity Net Worth, his salary for his participation in the recent The Batman was only $3 million. It seems only Harrison Ford is as famous for hating the role that brought him recognition, fame and fortune as he is for openly hating Han Solo from Star Wars.

Of course, no one has to love their job! But it seems that Pattinson finds Twilight so problematic and dull that he would hate it without even reading or watching it.

'The people who don't like it are generally people who haven't seen it, and they're like all judgmental and stuff, and cynical people,' He said in an interview with Moviefone, 'But I think I am a judgemental and cynical person who would just mindlessly hate it without ever having seen anything.'

3. The franchise doesn't make sense

One of the main reasons for the actor's dislike of Twilight is not the mass obsession with the franchise, but how inconsistent and at times downright nonsensical many of the storylines Meyer came up with are.

'There's a lot of stuff in the Twilight world that doesn't make sense. It's like, why are they still going to high school? Like, up until last year? They're a hundred years old,' the actor questioned the validity of the storylines, speaking with Chris Van Vilet.

2. The actor thinks Edward is ridiculous and doesn't understand how anyone can love him

Edward may be beloved by many, but Pattinson considers him one of the dullest variations of Marty Stu, emitting problematic horny energy in the direction of high school girls, and so Pattinson tried to play him as caricatured as possible.

'When you read the book, it's like, "Edward Cullen was so beautiful I creamed myself." I mean, every line is like that,' he told Empire. 'He's the most ridiculous person who's so amazing at everything. I think a lot of actors tried to play that aspect. I just couldn't do that. And the more I read the script, the more I hated this guy, so that's how I played him, as a manic-depressive who hates himself. Plus, he's a 108-year-old virgin, so he's obviously got some issues there.'

1. In his opinion, Meyer should not have written any novels at all

But nothing compares to Pattinson's belief that Meyer's books are obscene fanfics about herself, full of erotic fantasies. It's very ironic that Twilight itself spawned a huge amount of erotic fanfiction, one of which later became E.L. James' Fifty Shades of Grey. Sometimes it's quite obvious why the actor didn't want to play Edward — few people would enjoy playing a character so desired by their own creator.

Speaking about the books when the first movie came out, Robert said:

'When I read it, I was convinced Stephenie was convinced she was Bella and it was like it was a book that wasn't supposed to be published. It was like reading her sexual fantasy, especially when she said it was based on a dream.'

'Like some things about Edward are so specific, I was just convinced, like, "This woman is mad. She's completely mad and she's in love with her own fictional creation." And sometimes you would feel uncomfortable reading this thing.'
