5 Times Harry Potter's Snape Was a Piece of Garbage but Movie Fans Didn't Notice, Ranked
Severus Snape is the one character who was portrayed in a much better light in the movies than in the books. We're here to give him justice (or rather, take some of it away).
Let's remember the five times Snape showed his true disgusting colors.
5. Snape Outed Lupin Out of Pure Pettiness
The poor guy had trouble getting any job in his condition, let alone a decent-paying one. Lupin helped to clear Sirius' name and tried to bring Snape to his senses, and he paid the price.
As soon as things settled down, Snape went and told everyone in the school that Remus was a werewolf.
That's right, Snape actually destroyed someone's career for not letting him imprison an innocent man (or help the Dementors suck out his soul). He is just the worst.
4. Snape Bullied a 14-Year-Old Girl Just Cause
In the fourth book, the Gryffindors and the Slytherins got into a fight. Goyle ended up with a disfigured face, and Hermione's teeth grew past her collar.
We aren't surprised that Snape only deducted points from Gryffindor and sent Harry and Ron to detention (we would've been more surprised if he hadn't), but the fact that he didn't even tell Hermione to go to the Hospital Wing or acknowledge that there was something wrong with her teeth (he did the opposite, saying, "I see no difference") is low even for him.
3. Snape Was a Complete D*ck to Neville
We get that Snape hated Harry with all his heart because he looked like the guy who stole the girl he loved (or so he thought), but his treatment of Neville is just inexcusable.
No wonder Snape was literally Neville's worst nightmare (hence, the Boggart) – he once tried to kill his beloved pet! In the book, Snape saw that Neville's Shrinking Solution was no good and thought that the best way to motivate him to do better would be to threaten to poison Trevor, Neville's pet toad.
He had the audacity to look disappointed when the potion actually worked, and Trevor didn't die!
2. Snape Was the One Who Got Sirius Killed
Sirius wasn't without fault, but he lost everyone and was unjustly imprisoned for almost half of his life, so his childishness was understandable.
Sirius wanted to escape his childhood home of nightmares and help the Order, but he couldn't go on missions. Snape continuously antagonized him about it, and he took his sweet time to warn him or the Order about Harry's message in the fifth book.
Basically, the reason Sirius went to the Department of Mysteries in the first place was partly Snape's fault. After Harry lost Sirius too (and became a complete orphan), Snape wasn't shy about reminding him. What a great guy and teacher he was.
1. Snape Was the Worst Kind of Stalker
While movie Snape would have us believe that he was a half-decent person who didn't want the entire Potter family killed, book Snape stayed true to himself.
When he learned about the prophecy and realized that Voldemort intended to go after the Potters, Snape didn't hesitate to save his old school crush for a minute.
He even asked the Dark Lord to kill James and Harry in exchange for sparing Lily. Snape was perfectly fine with his supposed one true love losing her family as long as he could have her. Some hero he was!
Snape just sucks, and the Harry Potter movies should've done a better job of portraying that. Yes, we are still pissed. After all this time.
