Even though the prequels are remembered more fondly today, some great things about them are not brought up as often as they should be.

The Star Wars prequel trilogy received a significant amount of hate from the fanbase when it was released.

And while fans have grown to love the sequels since their release, they are still considered inferior to the original trilogy.

But some things that the prequels did great are rarely brought up even now, so here are five of those aspects of the trilogy, ranked.

5. Lightsaber Duels

The most obvious improvement over the original trilogy is the choreography of the fights.

When Episode I came out, even the most die-hard haters of the movie had to admit that the final battle with Darth Maul was perfect.

The moves, the tension, the music, everything was top notch. And Episodes II and III did not disappoint either, setting the bar so high that the sequels could not even reach it.

4. Anakin Skywalker

It seemed to be a common trend to hate Hayden Christensen for his portrayal of the iconic soon-to-be-villain.

But honestly, aside from the badly written dialogue, he did a pretty good job, especially in Episode III.

The scene where Anakin finds out about Padme's pregnancy is great, he manages to show the mixture of joy, shock and fear at such big news perfectly.

In a later scene where they are both quietly contemplating what will happen to them next, Anakin in the temple and Padme in her apartment, feels powerful without any dialogue in it.

And to be honest, the writing in the original trilogy was not as good as you remember it.

3. Variety of Unique Planets

With the new technologies available, George Lucas was able to bring much more diverse and colorful worlds to the screen.

While in the original trilogy we had the deserts of Tatooine, the snowy wastes of Hoth and the jungles of Yavin 4 and the moon of Endor, the prequels showed us the ecumenopolis of Corusant, the lava fields of Mustafar, the caverns of Utapau, the oceans of Kamino and many more.

2. Rise of Palpatine

Ian McDiarmid did a fantastic job reprising his character from the original trilogy and showing us his earlier years.

A striking contrast to the evil Emperor, a pleasant and charming Chancellor managed to fool not only the Jedi, but also those in the audience who were not as familiar with the character as some other fans.

1. Obi-Wan Kenobi

Brilliantly portrayed by Ewan McGregor, who managed to make even the most badly written lines at least passable, Obi-Wan was just as great as his older version played by Alec Guinness in the original trilogy.

The fans loved him so much that it was especially painful when the recent TV series turned out to be mediocre and failed to live up to the extremely high expectations.

And even then, Obi-Wan was one of the bright spots of the series, even if not as great as in the prequel trilogy.
