They didn’t need to go this dark, but we’re glad they did.

When you don't feel like watching anything that might make you feel bad or put extra stress on your brain after a long day at work, you probably turn to your favorite sitcom. They're fast, they're dynamic, and they're fun to watch no matter what state of mind you're in.

But even sitcoms aren't always upbeat, lighthearted, and funny. Sometimes humor is the only way to deal with traumatic events in life, and some shows take advantage of this by incorporating such things into the plot.

Here are five sitcom quotes that prove that a humorous show can hit you in the feelings much harder than any drama.

"You are all stuff to fill graves." (Cheers)

Death is inevitable, and, perhaps, that was the Cheers’ special method to remind us all about it. Yet, this quote and the scene it was told in hit the unsuspected viewers hard enough to remember the exact wording.

"I used to be with ‘it’, but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary to me. It’ll happen to you!" (The Simpsons )

The Simpsons is often referred to as a holy grail of philosophical quotes, and this one is one of them. The older you get, the less connected you feel with younger generations, their interests, and what they find cool. That is a circle of life, and that will keep happening, no matter how hard any of us try to cling to our youth.

"I don't have the most important job in the world, but I work in a place that helps people, and I always thought I was part of that." (Scrubs)

While the Scrubs itself was always considered to be quite a light-hearted show, the Janitor’s figure was one of the most interesting, intriguing, and philosophical ones. It’s not surprising to know these words of wisdom belonged to him. And there is absolutely no doubt that every job you do is equally important as long as you do it with the best intentions.

"War isn't Hell. War is war, and Hell is Hell. And of the two, war is a lot worse." (M*A*S*H)

The whole concept of the show may be slightly shocking for the modern viewer, as no one expects to see anyone joking about the war of any kind on TV. However, M*A*S*H wasn’t ever about making fun of other people’s tragedies but rather translating the ideas of the importance of peace through the means of comedy.

"I want to be married and have 100 kids so I can have 100 friends and no one can say no to being my friend." (The Office )

Michael Scott was such a good character not only because he was hilariously awkward and slightly weird, but because he was also very relatable in his own way. There’s nothing more heartbreaking than realizing someone is so lonely, that they would go this far just to have some friends. Especially if you have ever faced such loneliness yourself.
