David Rose is actually the kind of person who can really surprise.

Schitt's Creek is one of the best examples of a show that develops its characters' arcs in a meaningful way. For example, at the beginning of the show, the Rose family was all messed up and not exactly connected to each other.

But by the end of the show, every character was exactly where they should be. Totally transformed into better people. But of all of them, it's actually David who has done the best job of becoming a better version of himself, and here's some evidence of that.

1. "I'm Trying Very Hard Not To Connect With People Right Now"

That was the phrase that David said to Stevie, and frankly, those two always ended up sharing the most intimate moments together. This particular quote is from when David first arrived in Schitt's Creek.

He didn't know anyone at the time and didn't want to, so he told Stevie. However, united by their common dislike of most people, they make the best of a miserable situation, proving that misery loves company (until it can turn into true friendship).

2. "It's Just One Long String Of Really Bad Luck"

One other thing David told Stevie. In fact, he's been open with her in a way he hasn't been with anyone (even when Patrick came into the picture). She pushes his boundaries while building a foundation with her friendship that definitely helps him embrace change.

3. "I Am Suffering Romantically Right Now"

This was something David told Alexis after a string of bad luck in a dating area.

By approaching romantic partners the same way he always has, he gets the same unsettling results. Meeting Patrick forces him to change his approach, which makes him nervous and flustered, but also excited and hopeful about the future.

4. "I Never Saw Myself Living With Someone"

The phrase David said to Patrick when he realized that their relationship was more than just a fling. The thing is, when the whole Rose family started living together in a tiny motel room, David began to dream of the day when he would finally find an apartment of his own.

But with Patrick by his side, David actually started to consider living with him, and what's more, he was actually willing to compromise and put his needs aside for the sake of his partner.

5. "I Love Making Connections"

While this particular quote is laced with David's trademark sarcasm, it's also very true. David went from hating Schitt's Creek to actually wanting to put down roots and become part of the local community.

Slowly but surely, the people he once derided as hicks with no sophistication taught him about the one thing money can't buy – love.
