5 Outright Disturbing HIMYM Theories We'd Rather Not Know
These ones just don't make any sense.
Allow us to not-so-gently ruin your favorite comfort sitcom for you with some dark fan theories.
1. Barney And Robin Are Dead
The rumors about the main characters' death began to spread among fans as soon as one of the show's co-creators called the ending of How I Met Your Mother heartbreaking and with the release of the season 4 episode 'Porch Test,' they simply reached a breaking point.
The fact that Barney and Robin don't appear during Ted's lake flash-forwards made fans go crazy. Marshal, Lily, and Ted are there, and almost all of Ted's ex-girlfriends seem to be there, but not Barney and Robin.
This theory didn't prove to be canon, but if it meant that Barney and Robin ended up together, would we be mad?
2. The Mother is Barney's Sister
Remember, when Barney revealed that he had a half-sister named Carly who goes to college?
And since The Mother first saw Ted in his class it would only prove the fact that these two might have had a connection.
Moreover, The Mother's roommate claimed that The Mother stole every boyfriend that came inside their room — sounds like a female version of Barney, right?
But, in fact, The Mother didn't know Barney before his wedding day and never actually had a bunch of boyfriends.
3. Ted Has Alzheimer's
Ted always seemed to forget crucial things during the show: characters' names and their looks, the dates, he even forgot the period of time when Lily was pregnant.
And while you might ask yourself why it happened, the fans have already come up with their own theory — Ted had Alzheimer's.
It would then explain the reason for his severe memory loss and urgent desire to tell the kids his story before he forgets it.
But nothing indicates it in the show, so we should just call it nonsense... before it all goes darker than it should be.
4. The Kids Never Existed
Probably the most heartbreaking one, if it was true.
At the end of the show, we all realize that the whole point of Ted's story was about chasing Robin, and not about The Mother.
Fans were so mad that they convinced themselves that the kids never existed and, all this time, Ted was talking to himself to clear his head from Robin's presence.
Can you imagine loving someone that much for so long that you even make up your own kids so they make a decision for you?
5. Ted Is Dead
And after death, he goes straight to heaven where he finally has his own family, his kids, and a chance with Robin, the woman that's always been his number 1 on the list.
Too harsh, isn't it?
