5 of 2023's Movies Coming to Netflix This Week: January 15th to 21st, 2024
The 2023 full-length releases that Netflix will feature this week.
The third week of January 2024 promises to be a great time for Netflix subscribers, as the streaming service's library will be filled with a plethora of old and new, licensed and original series and movies. But today we're going to talk about the latter, as each of the new releases has a very intriguing premise and can certainly serve as a great pick for a cold January binge.
In addition to movies released in previous years, including some critically acclaimed ones, as well as upcoming ones in 2024, five new films released in 2023 will be available for streaming on Netflix for the first time. From a full-length Japanese anime film to a Nollywood action comedy, from a Spanish crime drama to an American dramatization of the so-called GameStop short squeeze, let's take a look at what's coming this week.
5. maboroshi
Release Date: September 15, 2023

On Monday, Netflix delighted fans of Japanese pop culture with a feature-length anime created by MAPPA, the studio responsible for such hits as Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, and Chainsaw Man. Mari Okada, one of the most renowned anime filmmakers and screenwriters (Toradora!, A Whisker Away), served as director and writer.
After a mysterious explosion at a steel factory, time has stopped in a small Japanese town. The main characters, high school student Masamune and his classmate Atsumi, meet an enigmatic feral girl who may be the key to saving the town and restoring balance to the world.
The film was originally released in Japanese theaters last September, but as of Monday, it is available to all Netflix subscribers.
4. Merry Men 3: Nemesis
Release Date: October 13, 2023
Release Date (Netflix): January 18, 2024
Merry Men is a film series that follows the crazy adventures of Nigerian Robin Hoods who are not afraid to conspire against the rich and political elite.
The action-comedy threequel will follow Ayo's old friend turned nemesis (Ramsey Nouah) as he tries to avenge his past and ruin Ayo's wedding. The first two installments are also available on Netflix, so be sure to check out all three hilarious movies.
3. My Loneliness Has Wings
Release Date: August 25, 2023

In August 2023, one of Spain's most popular actors, Mario Casas, made his directorial debut with a new drama film that he co-wrote with Belgian actress Déborah François. It stars the director's younger brother, Óscar Casas.
My Loneliness Has Wings will tell the story of the gritty daily life of the Spanish underground, focusing on a group of young graffiti artists who are forced to flee from Barcelona to Madrid after a botched robbery.
2. Song of the South
Release Date: November 23, 2023
Release Date (Netflix): January 20, 2024
Loosely based on the book of the same name by classic Vietnamese writer Đoàn Giỏi, Song of the South tells the story of a young boy named An's 1930s journey filled with dangerous adventure and tragedy in search of his father, a rebel leader.
1. Dumb Money

Dumb Money is a biographical comedy-drama written by Craig Gillespie, based on Ben Mezrih's book The Antisocial Network, and featuring an all-star cast including Paul Dano, Pete Davidson, America Ferrera, Nick Offerman, Seth Rogen and more.
The plot revolves around the crazy story of how ordinary netizens pulled off a short squeeze of GameStop stock, causing a retail stock market frenzy and enriching the authors of the short squeeze.
