A fresh start can actually be good sometimes.

In the age of reboots, it's all too easy to become critical and judgmental of the idea of rebooting anything in general. Just like any other movie, reboots and live-action movies can have their own hits and misses, so it's extremely important to keep an open mind before going to see one.

Film history is littered with examples of reboots that have become so popular and successful that they may even be better than the original. Here are 5 examples to dispel any skepticism.

X-Men: First Class (2011)

The movie was able to do something no one thought possible: bring the X-Men franchise back to its rightful glory. Although X-Men was previously considered a failing franchise, the reboot not only managed to bring it back to glory but also brilliantly combined the two timelines in the sequel, Days of Future Past.

Star Trek ( 2009)

Star Trek fans never gave up on the franchise, but J.J. Abrams was always a fan of the idea of making the franchise not only fun but cool. He managed to do that by creating a blockbuster Trek movie that attracted many more fans from the general audience and moved the franchise forward.

Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

All the creators of Top Gun had to do to achieve their past success was to reboot the franchise and go back to an old, proven formula. Maverick puts Tom Cruise's character in a situation where he has everything to lose and gives audiences some old-school action they can't take their eyes off of. A 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes is further proof.

The Mummy ( 1999)

Unless you are a hardcore fan of the horror genre, you may have never even thought of The Mummy as a remake of the 1932 horror film of the same name. Although the original movie barely received average reviews, the 1999 version took it to a whole new level and turned it into a classic adventure.

Ocean's Eleven (2001)

Another great example of a movie that was never considered special in the '60s when it was first made, but became iconic thanks to the more recent remake. What's even more impressive is the way Ocean's Eleven allowed the franchise to thrive, with two sequels and a female-led spinoff, Ocean's Eight, receiving just as much praise.
