Those deaths demonstrated just how brutal Chicago Fire writers can sometimes be.

Chicago Fire is a show about firefighters and paramedics which has been running for 11 seasons, which means a lot of characters have died.

Some of the deaths left viewers shrugging their shoulders, but others broke the fans' hearts.

Leslie Shay

Leslie was Severide's good friend but her death shocked not only him, but also the fans of the show. At the end of the second season, while putting out a fire, an explosion occurred and a pipe fell on Leslie's head.

She did not survive the injury, but viewers only learned of it early in the third season.

Evan Hawkins

Evan only appeared on the show in season 10, but that doesn't make his unexpected death any less heartbreaking. Evan quickly won the hearts of fans and the heart of another Chicago Fire character, Violet Mikami.

Their couple was beloved by many viewers, and it was painful to watch Violet unsuccessfully try to save Evan when a building collapsed on him in season 11.

Anna Turner

Anna was Severide's true love. However, the love story of Severide and Anna was not destined to end happily. Anna had leukemia and needed a bone marrow transplant. Severide was a suitable donor and agreed to help her.

After that, they became close and a relationship began between them. However, the transplant did not help and Anna's condition continued to deteriorate. She eventually signed the DNR and died while Severide sat by her bed.

Andy Darden

The first death of the series deserves special attention. Andrew Darden was a close friend of Casey and Severide, and his death at the very beginning of the first season continued to affect the characters throughout the following seasons.

Andrew climbed into the attic of the house, but the fire was not yet extinguished, and he died as a result of a backdraft.

This death became a bone of contention between Casey and Severide, with each blaming the other for what happened. It was later revealed that Andrew had named Casey guardian of his two sons if anything happened to him or his wife.

So when Andrew's wife went to jail, Casey went to take care of the kids.
