5 Most Romantic How I Met Your Mother Scenes That Will Never Be Outdone
They all live rent-free in our minds.
A person's continuing interest in all things romantic is easy to understand: life hits everyone so hard that we appreciate every little bit of attention and love given to us, and when we get some, there is no one in the whole world happier than us.
And where to get inspiration if not from TV shows that have so many romantic storylines? The perfect example is of course How I Met Your Mother, the show that gave us the yellow umbrella, the blue horn, the Playbook (it's still romantic) and Lily and Marshall's couple.
Here is a list of the 5 most romantic scenes from the show that we think are impossible to top.
1. The 2-Minute Date (Season 3 Episode 13)
One of the most beautiful love stories of the show was that of Ted and Stella, even though we know how badly it ended... Still, it was with Stella that Ted realized he was still the same guy who wanted a simple life as a family man.
When Stella had no time to go on a date with him because of her busy schedule and her daughter, he squeezed a cute date into her day that only lasted 2 minutes, but was full of emotion and everything a real date consists of. Well, we think that's every modern corporate girl's dream — to have a boyfriend who is so creative that he can make you happy in just two minutes.
2. Rain, Rain, Don’t Go Away (Season 1 Episode 22)
Long before season 3 and Stella, it was all about Robin and Ted (in fact, it will always be about them, but that's another story). At the end of season 1, we saw how desperate Ted was to make things work between him and Robin. But he wasn't creepy and pathetic in his attempts, he was optimistic that love would find a way to show up in his life.
So to keep Robin from going on a trip with her co-workers, he found a guy that taught him the rain dance. And it’s so sweet how he dances on a rooftop until it actually rains.
3. The Lighthouse Moment (Season 9 Episode 8)
The most romantic person in the whole series is without a doubt Ted. There have been so many scenes where he has been extremely good to people who didn't deserve his affection in the end that fans have been waiting for him to finally have a romantic interaction with Tracy, aka the mother.
The scene at the lighthouse is their best, because it's right when he proposes to her, turning his life around 180 degrees.
4. Marshall and Lily's Wedding, The Secret One (Season 2 Episode 21)
Anyone who has been through a wedding knows that it is truly one of the most nerve-wracking days of your life. You start worrying about every little thing, and as luck would have it — everything goes wrong that day. Well, Marshall and Lily's wedding was no exception...
The scene where they decide to get married in secret outside the venue, and Barney marries them, is the best moment the three of them ever had in the entire run of the show.
5. The Blue French Horn (Season 9 Episodes 23/24)
There is no object as important in the show as the blue horn that Ted stole from the restaurant where he and Robin had their first date. From that moment on, the horn was referenced many times, but it was not until the end of the series that everything came full circle.
Ted stole the same horn from the same restaurant for Robin again, and the gesture symbolizes the lengths to which Ted is willing to go to prove his love for her. When he shows up with it at the end of the last episode, no words need to be spoken, as it is clear that he is asking for another try.
