Not every operation should be narrated by Meredith Grey.

Grey's Anatomy is great. There are as many haters of the show as there are fans, but you cannot deny that it has to be a quality product to stay on the air as long as it has. Nineteen seasons and counting says more than a few bad reviews or snarky articles.

After a while, though, you might get tired of seeing the same characters break up, get back together, leave the hospital, and then come back. The good news is that there are plenty of medical TV dramas to cleanse your palate.

Here are the Top 5 TV shows that focus on hospital life to check out.

5. The Resident

The show follows the life of Conrad Hawkins at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. What makes the series stand out from the rest is its realistic portrayal of the state of the US healthcare system, and that's why it has received much praise from both viewers and critics.

4. ER

They say 'ER walked, so Grey's Anatomy could run,' and this statement is very true, at least to some extent. ER made the genre of medical dramas as popular as it is now and showed how lengthy a series like this can be by setting an impressive 15-season example.

At least the first five of them are definitely worth your time.

Private Practice

A good thing about Private Practice is that this show was also created and run by Shonda Rhimes, so you can already count on quality writing and production. And even though it's a spin-off of Grey's Anatomy, you won't be too bored by repeating storylines and overlapping characters.

Nurse Jackie

If you love the high intensity of ER but want a better focus on one of the characters, Nurse Jackie would be right up your alley. The series follows the everyday life and struggles of a drug-addicted and extremely overworked ER nurse, Jackie Peyton.

House

There are too many people who think they know about House but never actually watched it. If you're one of them, it's the right time to join Dr. Gregory House, portrayed by Hugh Laurie, and his brilliant team in their practice. With all highs, lows, and sarcastic commentary, the show would not leave you disappointed.
