Swiss Army Man (2016)
A script in which one of the main characters is a farting corpse sounds like an idea straight out of a mental institution.
But somehow, Swiss Army Man manages to be a pretty heartfelt and funny story with a surprisingly deeper undertone, not least thanks to great acting performances from Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe.

Being John Malkovich (1999)
A crazy story about a file clerk who can access the body of real-life actor John Malkovich through a tiny door in his office is actually about a married man who falls in love with a woman at work?
We still can't figure out how John came to agree to this, but the completely original idea combined with the clever humor made it a true masterpiece.
The Lego Movie (2014)
We've seen far too many creatively bankrupt movies made solely to promote various products, so when a movie was announced that sounded like a giant Lego marketing campaign, many people expected it to fail miserably.
But with a clever script and brilliant performances (Will Arnett's Batman is considered by some to be one of the best versions of the hero ever brought to the screen), this shameless advertisement turned into a hilarious thrill ride.
Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)
The name says it all, but the chemistry of the cast somehow made this idiotic idea for a movie work against all odds.
