5 Grey's Anatomy Couples That Shouldn't Have Ever Happened
As much as everyone loves drama, some characters are better off alone.
If there's one thing Grey's Anatomy has never been short on, it's the number of couples that have formed over the course of 19 seasons.
With all the characters coming in and out of the show, it would be hard to maintain stable relationships. Besides, nothing gets the ratings up like another messy breakup or cheating story.
However, not all couples were created equal. While some definitely made television history, like Mark Sloand and Lexie Grey or Meredith and McDreamy, other viewers would rather forget.
Here are 5 Grey's Anatomy couples you cannot watch without cringing at least a little.
Callie Torres and Penny Blake
Of course, no one wants to see their favorite character leave the show. Especially when it's Callie Torres, who has been one of the most popular characters on Grey's Anatomy for many years.
Penny Blake, who was created just to justify her exit, never seemed genuine and the relationship just felt forced.
Arizona Robinson and Leah Murphy
It's not surprising that fans didn't enjoy either Callie or Arizona when #Calzona officially came to an end. The relationship between Arizona and Leah didn't really happen, but everyone still remembers how awkward it was to watch Leah force herself on someone who clearly wasn't that interested.
George O'Malley and Olivia Jankovic (Bonus: Alex Karev)
This love triangle was never really able to compete with other storylines throughout the show, as one of the characters had practically no storyline other than bouncing between two interns.
No one would blame you for not remembering who Olivia was, just because she didn't have anything to remember about her.
Cristina Yang and Shane Ross
You could definitely see someone like Cristina having a little affair to relieve the stress of work. However, taking her boy toy to Switzerland seems a bit over the top.
Of course, no one could imagine a romance between Shane and Cristina over there, but the decision still rubbed fans the wrong way.
Jackson Avery and Maggie Pierce
It would be much better to let these two explore their single lives in peace than to pair two step-siblings together, but Grey's Anatomy decided otherwise.
The lack of chemistry between the actors only exacerbated the lack of common interests between their characters. The only thing they had in common was their family, and that was definitely just another con to add to the mix.
