5 Brilliant TV Shows That Rapidly Fell From Grace For Some Reason
Some series got off to an exceptional start, only to experience a tragic decline in quality extremely soon.
Sometimes, after watching an exceptionally great debut season of a show, you can't wait to see what the creators have in store for the next season, only to be sorely disappointed later. Here are five examples of shows that got off to a great start, but quickly fell off a cliff.
American Gods (2017-2021)
Based on Neil Gaiman 's novel of the same name, the show's first season felt promising, with a great cast and an intriguing story. Unfortunately, the departure of showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, as well as the recasting of several characters, had a definite negative impact on the show, which became apparent as soon as season 2 was released.
Heroes (2006-2010)
Some fans consider this to be the biggest rise and fall of a TV show in the shortest amount of time. And while the underwhelming quality of season 2 can be explained by the 2007-2008 WGA strike, seasons 3 and 4 were somehow even worse, putting an end to a once great series.
Prison Break (2005-2017)
While many fans joke that Prison Break should have ended after the main characters broke out of prison, season 2 was still somewhat entertaining. Unfortunately, things only went downhill from there, with each subsequent season being more disappointing than the last.
Altered Carbon (2018-2020)
The first season, based on the novel of the same name by Richard K. Morgan, was a true gift to all fans of the cyberpunk genre, with its intricate story, charismatic characters, fascinating world, and great visuals.
So when season 2 ended up being a dull mess that lost all of its charm, it was a real tragedy for fans. Luckily, season 1 is a perfectly self-contained story, so most of them prefer to pretend that season 2 never happened.
Westworld ( 2016-2022)
The first season of Westworld set the bar so high that the creators have never been able to reach it again. Fans immediately felt the drop in quality after watching season 2, and sadly, things have only gotten worse since then.
