You know him as the salesman from Squid Game, but it is time to get to know him better.

Gong Yoo is one of the most popular actors in South Korea. He has an official fandom in almost every country, and on every social network there are dozens of communities dedicated to his life and work. The best directors of South Korea dream to see him in their project, but Gong Yoo chooses only the best of them.

1. The Silent Sea, 2021

Due to a resource crisis, water is distributed according to social and professional status, causing many protests. Astrobiologist Song Ji-an joins a group of astronauts traveling to the abandoned lunar station, where the solution to Earth's problem could be hidden. But the secrets of the station, coupled with Dr. Song's personal secrets, threaten the operation and the lives of the entire crew.

The role of captain and mission leader Han Yoon-jae went to Gong Yoo, who brilliantly managed to play a reserved, cynical, but noble leader.

2. Finding Mr. Destiny, 2010

Han Gi-joon launches a company that claims to be able to locate each person's first love. Seo Ji-woo, his first client, is keen to get back together with the man she met in India. Initially, Gi-joon follows her around South Korea in an attempt to find her true love, but in the end, he starts to develop feelings for Ji-woo.

At first, Gong Yoo’s character looks like a typical clerk from a bad comedy – glasses, slicked back hair and awkward manners. At the same time, Gi-joon will captivate you with his honesty and by the end of the movie you will definitely fall in love with him.

3. Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, 2016-2017

Gong Yoo is a 939-year-old demon in the romantic fantasy drama. The only person who can deliver him from the curse is the woman who takes the sword from his flesh. However, the Grim Reaper is pursuing her, and eventually, the devil develops feelings for the woman who will put an end to his cursed eternal life.

The show became a big hit throughout Asia and one of the highest-rated Korean dramas in television history. The project earned Gong Yoo a win for Best TV Actor at the 53rd Baeksang Arts Awards.

4. Big, 2012

18-year-old Kang Kyung-joon was no different from his peers until an incident put an end to his carefree youth. As a result of a car accident, his soul is somehow transported into the body of 30-year-old doctor Seo Yoon-jae, who is engaged to his teacher Gil Da-ran, while his own body remains in a coma.

Gong Yoo did an excellent job of portraying two different characters – the serious, successful doctor, who is confused in his feelings, and the boy with a complex past, who was able to grow up in the body of a thirty-year-old.

5. Silenced, 2011

Based on a true story, the movie follows Kang In-ho, played by Gong Yoo, a benevolent art teacher with a dark past. Concerned that the students at his new school seem distant and paranoid, he soon learns that they are being abused by members of the administration.

After its release, the film provoked a strong public reaction that led to a new trial, which initially failed to punish the perpetrators as they deserved.
