5 Annoying Hogwarts Rules As Nonsensical As They Are Useless
Not only is School of Witchcraft and Wizardry quite dangerous, but it's also full of rules that make no sense, so it's not as appealing as it first seems.
We can all agree that Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is not the safest of educational institutions, often putting its students in danger through blatant negligence and sometimes even intentionally, just look at the Triwizard Tournament.
However, there are also a lot of completely nonsensical rules that the students have to follow, which further calls into question the competence of the school's staff.
So here are five weird Hogwarts rules that make no sense.
1. You can't visit other houses' common rooms
The common rooms of each of the four houses have special security measures to prevent students from other houses from entering, and you don't know the location of any common rooms other than your own.
This feels rather strange, as this isolation only fuels the animosity between students from different houses.
2. Duels are allowed
Speaking of animosity, while the official explanation for allowing students to duel is to practice self-defense, it is still highly questionable.
Not only do they increase tensions between students, but they are also incredibly dangerous because, unlike real-world training duels, there is no spell protection.
Wands are instruments of immense power, what if a student snaps in the heat of the moment?
3. The Restricted Section is not so restricted
If the books in the restricted section are so dangerous or inappropriate for younger students, why not keep them in a secure vault?
Because with the current security measures, if it is not even locked, the staff can simply make it accessible to all students.
4. Butterbeer isn't served at Hogwarts
This may be due to the fact that butterbeer still contains a small amount of alcohol, considering that house-elves can get drunk from it, so it's forbidden to serve it at school.
But for some reason, even underage students can freely buy it in the nearby village of Hogsmeade, so it is unclear why it should not be served at school in this case.
5. Hogwarts has a curfew
The school curfew is from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and students are not allowed to leave their common rooms, with few exceptions.
But did it really stop literally anyone during the entire movie series? We all know the answer is no, so why have it at all if it is so easily avoidable?
