Game of Thrones dispatched its characters left, right, and center, but even then, some of them really overstayed their welcome. These five could never die too soon!

5. Stannis Baratheon

Many Game of Thrones fans adore Stannis the Mannis, but these are mostly the people who read the books first — or the ones who just love his meme nickname. The show Stannis did little to earn the viewers’ sympathies, proving himself to be a stubborn, power-hungry, and ruthless man with few redeeming qualities.

While Stannis Baratheon was an interesting player in the War of the Five Kings, he quickly overstayed his welcome. Following the lead of Melisandre, Stannis the Mannis decided to pick the career of a kinslayer. We could forgive him for murdering his brother Renly, but burning his wholesome and sweet girl Shireen alive? Never.

4. High Sparrow

Unlike our previous contestant, the High Sparrow didn’t even have the phase of “he could be OK” in our book. Immediately after appearing on the screen, the self-proclaimed prophet appears fishy at best and inherently annoying at worst, and we soon learn that rooting for him would’ve been dumb (and lowkey impossible).

A corrupt and selfish zealot, the High Sparrow is a power-hungry monster hiding behind the facade of a kind and understanding servant of the Gods. There has never been anything holy about this priest and his militant religious group, and the only thing the High Sparrow cared about was amassing his own political influence.

3. Petyr Baelish

Is there any need to explain why we wanted Littlefinger to die sooner? While brilliant and sharp with his political schemes, Petyr Baelish was the most untrustworthy person in the entire show — and this means something in Game of Thrones. Baelish came off as sympathetic at times but ultimately betrayed everyone in the end.

For all the good folks Littlefinger got killed, we must admit that we only began truly hating his guts after he sold Sansa off — again. When the new Queen in the North was already back in power and Baelish still tried pitting her against her sister Arya, we were just sitting there with evil smiles waiting for Littlefinger’s execution.

2. Joffrey Baratheon

Joffrey is still very young when we first see him in the show, and his presence as a charming little prince doesn’t last long. Even though he’s still a boy, Joffrey turns out to be a craven, sadistic, and pathetic creature. As he grows older, these peculiar personal traits grow with him until Joffrey becomes the most embarrassing monster.

The longer into the show, the more disgusting things Joffrey does, and by the time he reaches his climax, we’re already rooting for his death to be as painful as possible for ages. While being poisoned at his own wedding and painfully dying in his mother’s arms was brutal, it was still not enough after what he did to Sansa.

1. Ramsey Bolton

We all used to think Joffrey was the worst — but then, Ramsey was added into the equation. Where Cersei’s oldest son was a pathetic and embarrassing creature, Ramsey Bolton was a fully-fledged sadistic maniac with no redeeming qualities. Inflicting physical and moral pain upon others was all that interested Bolton Jr.

The third character in this short list who made Sansa Stark’s life a living hell, Ramsey’s operation was far bigger than just her. The things he did with Theon were unspeakable, and even though most of us hated the youngest Greyjoy when he was caught, in the end, we all sympathized with him and only wanted Ramsey to be burnt alive. Fortunately, when Sansa got her hands on him, she had a pretty fun idea, too.
