4 Heartstopper Actors Returning for S3, and 1 Who Couldn’t Make It

Based on Alice Oseman's graphic novels of the same name, Heartstopper has become a true cultural phenomenon for queer representation in Gen Z media.

For the past two seasons, viewers have followed the budding romance between out gay kid Charlie Springs and popular rugby player Nick Nelson as they try to balance their studies, hobbies, friendships, and unexpected feelings.

The third season of the show will be released in October 2024, but unfortunately not all of the cast will be returning.

Heartstopper Season 3 Cast Updates

Returning: Joe Locke as Charlie Spring

Heartstopper wouldn't be back without its two leads returning to their roles. Joe Locke will reprise his role as Charlie and delve a little deeper into his character's mental health, which was previously explored in seasons 1 and 2 of the show. After all the bullying he has endured, the road to regaining his peace will not be easy.

Returning: Kit Connor as Nick Nelson

Charlie's loving friend will also be back, doing his best to understand where he's coming from and how to be the support system he needs. Since Nick is a year older than Charlie, he'll also have to think about the next step in his education and decide what he wants to do with his life moving forward.

Returning: William Gao as Tao Xu

Throughout the last two seasons of Heartstopper, Tao has been one of the most important people in Charlie's life, and their friendship will only continue to blossom. Now that he has finally opened up about his feelings for Elle, Tao will embark on a journey of self-exploration in season 3, searching for a hobby that will make him happy and help him find his artistic voice.

Returning: Yasmin Finney as Elle Argent

Happily dating Tao Xu, Elle will now be stronger than ever as she enters a whole new era of her life. She'll have to move away and attend Lambert, which she fought so hard to get into last season. The problem is, long-distance relationships aren't for everyone, and Elle and Tao may fall victim to the struggle to stay close.

Didn't make it: Olivia Colman as Sarah Nelson

One of the saddest news about the upcoming season 3 of Heartstopper is that Olivia Colman was unable to fit Heartstopper into her schedule. Don't worry though, Alice Oseman has already announced that Sarah Nelson will not be recast, so if all the stars align, the actress will be welcome back for season 4.
