After the success of One Piece, many viewers wondered – are there other successful (or at least not terrible) anime adaptations? As it turns out, there are. It wasn't easy, but we've compiled a list of good live-action anime adaptations for you.
1. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable
The JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga and anime are among the most unique examples of Japanese creativity. There're amazing battles in which even a piece of paper or spaghetti can become a deadly weapon.
In fact, the source material played a significant role in the success of the adaptation. Diamond Is Unbreakable is so crazy that it's still fun to watch on the big screen.
The plot tells the story of a teenager, Josuke, who has a special "life energy" – the Stand. He lives the life of an ordinary teenager, until one day another Stand user appears in his life.
2. Gantz
Hiroya Oku's manga Gantz was certainly iconic. Combining insane cruelty with an intriguing plot, it went down in history.
The story of Kei Kurono, who died in the subway and was resurrected only to fight aliens, is fascinating, and he battle scenes make you can feel the desperation of people who could easily die fighting the unknown.
3. Rurouni Kenshin
Here’s a real miracle – a whole trilogy of good movies based on one anime. The story of Himura Kenshin, a former merciless killer who tries to atone for the sins of his past, is loved by many.
Of course, when transferred to the big screen, Kenshin lost a little of his signature charisma, but the story itself became deeper. Although there is no realism at all in this adaptation, it is a real pleasure to watch the stunning choreography of the fights with intricate movements.
4. Blade of the Immortal
The manga Blade of the Immortal premiered in 1993 and ended in 2012. The first anime adaptation in TV series format was released in 2008, but was met with controversy.
However, the 2017 movie not only managed to bring the story of Samurai Manji to the big screen, but also turned out to be so impressive that it contributed to the popularity of both the manga and the anime.
