30 Years Later, Courteney Cox Gets Candid About How She Truly Felt on Friends Set
Though it didn’t look like this at all, the actress was having a real struggle with self-acceptance on the set.
Summary:
- Courteney Cox, who played Monica Geller in the iconic series Friends, reveals she wasn’t that happy personally while shooting the sitcom.
- Cox was struggling with insecurity and lack of ambition feeling like she had some kind of imposter syndrome at that time.
- Not that she’s getting older, the actress seems to have much more confidence and ambitions than at her younger age.
Monica Geller, the character that Cox portrays in the worldly famous and fan-favorite series, always seems to stay on a positive note no matter what — but behind the cameras not everything was just like in the shot. While talking at Marie Claire’s Power Play event in Santa Monica, Courteney Cox revealed she was actually having a hard time on the set of the comedy sitcom.
As the actress said, she had to deal with insecurity and lack of ambition for something else, in addition to a big people-pleasing issue. Cox now regrets not having had enough bravery to go for things that she really wanted, but just feared to try, and suggests that it was some kind of imposter syndrome back then that affected her life for that long.
Now that the actress is about to turn 60 this year, she doesn’t seem to have the same problems — with time Courteney Cox managed to overcome fear by taking chances and trying harder and finally learned that for being happy she had to put 100% effort in it every day.
Cox even admitted that at the quite mature age she’s much more confident and ambitious than she was in her 20s or 30s while filming Friends, but now she’s also capable of choosing what she really wants and rejecting what she doesn’t — mostly thanks to valuing her time.
Finally, the actress revealed that currently she’s doing her best to keep herself busy, otherwise she’ll become lazy — for example, Cox loves playing piano, cooking (which she mastered while being locked up during 2020 lockdown), playing tennis, but also having her own business and still participating in the cinema world. As she’s getting older, Cox confesses, she realized she’d rather not miss a chance to do a million more things.
