3 Reasons Doctor Who’s New Rose Is Definitely Donna Noble’s Daughter
Actress Yasmin Finney has joined Doctor Who’s 60th-anniversary specials as the mysterious Rose.
The longest-running sci-fi drama will be crossing another milestone in November 2023, and BBC has brought out the big guns for the occasion. Apart from David Tennant and Catherine Tate who will be returning as the Fourteenth Doctor and Donna Noble respectively, Russell T. Davies is coming back as the showrunner for the anniversary specials and subsequent seasons, featuring Ncuti Gatwa ’s Fifteenth Doctor.
Yasmin Finney will be part of the November specials and possibly further, as Davies has recently hinted. Not much is known about her character except for the fact that she’s called Rose and that’s not a coincidence – this name is meaningful in Doctor Who, especially in Davies’ era.
Some fans are convinced that Finney will be playing Donna’s daughter, and this theory is looking more and more legit by the day. Here are three arguments to support the claim.
1. Rose Pops Up Alongside Donna’s Family
Judging by the promo photos and the trailer, Rose is definitely connected to the Temple-Noble family (she is even featured holding hands with Shaun, Donna’s husband in one image).
It makes sense that Rose is Donna and Shaun’s kid even from the appearance point of view – she could easily be their biracial biological daughter.
2. Rose’s Name Has a History
Davies has already mentioned that Rose is called Rose for a reason. Well, this reason could be the fact that Donna’s memories are leaking through.
She may not remember the Doctor or anything connected to him, but their final adventure, which has made her Doctor Donna, must have left a trace: a single name, bearing the memory of Rose Tyler. Donna could’ve named her daughter after the Doctor’s Rose without realizing it.
3. Rose Might Be Staying for Longer
The Doctor Who showrunner has accidentally (not) revealed Finney’s filming schedule, which could mean she will be part of season 14 with Gatwa’s Doctor.
Davies is known to be sentimental. He has started his first era with Rose, so why can’t he start his second one by paying homage to the original Rose?
