3 New Korean Shows Coming to Netflix in March 2024

My Name is Loh Kiwan (2024)

Technically, this is a movie, but it is not to be missed. Based on the popular novel I Met Loh Kiwan by Cho Hae-jin, it has been adapted for the screen by Kim Jee-hin, who is also the director. This is Kim's directorial debut and will no doubt be brilliant if the source material is anything to go by.

The original novel tells the story of Loh Kiwan, a North Korean man desperately trying to escape his homeland. He first flees to China, and his travels eventually take him to Belgium, where he meets Marie, a Belgian-Korean woman. As he fights for his refugee status, he gets to know Marie well and learns that she used to be a professional marksman, but recent events in her life have caused her to take a dark turn. Will he be able to help save her from thoughts of self-harm?

The movie has a great cast, including Song Joong-ki and Choi Sung, eun as the leads, with Kim Sung-ryung, Jo han-chul, and Lee il-hwa in supporting roles. The characters are diverse and the story is poignant and passionate.

Queen of Tears (Season 1)

This hilarious romantic comedy reminds us all that wealthy, successful couples are not necessarily living the dream. It follows the story of married couple Baek Hyun-woo and Hong Hae-in, who, despite their money and status, are not immune to crises.

He is the legal director of Queen's Group and she is the director of Queen's Department Store. They learn that mixing their personal and professional lives can take its toll on their marriage, but remain determined not to lose each other. Starring Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, expect plenty of laughs and sweet, tender moments.

Chicken Nugget (Season 1)

Based on the webtoon, this show promises to be bizarre, funny, and intriguing. The daughter of the genius president of a machine company accidentally turns herself into a chicken nugget using one of her father's devices. She hoped to cure her fatigue and made a disastrous mistake. Now her father has to team up with his intern Baek-joong to save her and return her to human form. The situation is complicated by the fact that Baek-joong has a huge crush on her.

Bonus Mention - Physical: 100: Season (Season 2)

This Korean reality competition series became an overnight sensation when Season 1 landed in January this year. 100 people compete for the top spot in a series of intense physical challenges, and are eliminated one by one if they fail to make the cut. With a cast of professional athletes and fitness influencers, the tasks they face are not for the average couch potato.

The combination of famous faces and exciting competitions has made this show insanely watchable, so it should come as no surprise that Season 2 is already here. With a huge cash prize on offer for the last person standing, and contestants having to destroy a plaster cast version of themselves upon elimination, the similarities to the popular K-drama Squid Game are obvious.

But rest assured, no one actually dies on this show. It is all fun and an incredible test of strength and fitness.
