3 Movies Worth Watching This May Beside 'Doctor Strange 2' And 'Top Gun: Maverick'
This May is sure to be a very busy one for moviegoers, with Marvel's latest 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' and Paramount's Tom Cruise starring 'Top Gun Maverick' premiering in the coming weeks.
However, the premieres of these films won't surprise anyone, because their marketing campaigns began long before their upcoming releases. Much more interesting would be to spotlight the other three May films, struggling to reach their audiences because of the long-awaited premieres of their high-budget counterparts.

Firestarter – May 13 (dir. Keith Thomas)
A Stephen King adaptation starring Zac Efron? We're all for it. The Hollywood heartthrob has been trying to get as far away from his slick image as possible in recent years, so this film will undoubtedly serve his purpose. Based on the King's story about a girl who can set things on fire with just her thoughts, 'Firestarter' is sure to please audiences with its tense storytelling and gripping plot.
Sure, at first glance the film looks just a little gaudy, but sometimes we do long for '90s atmosphere when we go to the movies to relax.
Downton Abbey: A New Era – May 20 (dir. Simon Curtis)
Our favorite drama about English aristocrats returns in the form of an entire two-hour movie! The Crawley family will welcome their fans back to their beloved Downton with new secrets, intrigue and romantic triangles to uncover. Maggie Smith returns to her groundbreaking portrayal of Violet Crowley, and Michelle Dockery, Hugh Dancy and Dominic West round out the cast.
Peeking into the lives of British nobility has always been exciting, so revisiting the English countryside once more sounds like a great idea.
Men – May 20 (dir. Alex Garland )
A24 is ready to scare us with another delirious-sounding horror film. Directed and written by Alex Garland ('Ex Machina'), the film will follow young woman (Jessie Buckley) tormented by the vision of her late husband (Rory Kinnear).
The premise is great, and with director's solid background we're sure to enjoy the nail-biting weirdness that plunges us into some really twisted psychological depths.
