3 Iconic Mystery Shows That Rose From Ashes and Came Back With a Bang
Some beloved shows managed to return and get their second wind after many years.
We, as human beings, tend to recall the past and to return to the good old places we’ve already been. The same is with TV shows - it’s always tempting to rewatch the favorite ones and to repeat the lines learnt by heart.
Sometimes they surprisingly come back and get extensions so that it’s possible to observe the familiar characters one more time.
Twin Peaks
The cult of the early 90s mystery drama, originally directed by David Lynch, surpasses all conceivable and inconceivable limits and everyone was sure the events happening in Twin Peaks couldn’t be fully investigated only in two seasons when ABC canceled it.
Apart from the sophisticated film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me released in 1992, it took 25 years before Showtime extended the show for the third season in 2017.
Kyle MacLachlan returned to his role of Special Agent Dale Cooper as well as other members of the former cast and the continuation received mostly positive critical reviews, while some fans of the original series left frustrated by the Lynch’s cinematic decisions.
The X-Files
Starting from 1993, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson brilliantly played the FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, who were chasing supernatural creatures and each other’s feelings.
The hit show was closed in 2002, but it was really obvious the two would return to their roles in a potential comeback. Duchovny and Anderson indeed reunited for the 2008 movie The X-Files: I Want to Believe, and then, in 2016 and 2018, they played in the last seasons of The X-files, which received mixed reviews on the Net.
The Twilight Zone
This 1959–1964 anthology series, which combines horror, sci-fi and fantasy elements, is regarded as cultish and one of the best TV shows ever made. It was well-known for its shocking endings and moral lessons told in an unexpected way.
Fans were thrilled to hear that the iconic series would be getting a 2019 two-seasons successful reboot narrated by the famous comedian and horror filmmaker Jordan Peele.
