3 Game of Thrones Casting Choices So Genius They Make Up For Everything (Even S8 Flop)
They did a great job with their roles.
Finding the right actor to not only embody a book character on screen, but also to give it a unique touch, is quite difficult. Sometimes, however, there are rare cases where the casting is so precise that the actors seem born to play the roles.
We've picked three actors who, according to Game of Thrones fans, have captured the spirit of the source material.
3. Rory McCann
The Scottish actor played the formidable Sandor Clegane, also known as the Hound. He perfectly portrayed the tough and evil looking character. The Hound was terrifying with his scorched face, disgruntled grin and raspy voice.
But as the plot progressed, the backstory of Sandor Clegane, who was tormented by his older brother, was revealed. The audience sympathized with the Hound, and McCann handled the dramatic moments beautifully, further connecting fans to the character.
The actor did a wonderful job of showing Clegane's transformation from a ruthless villain to a wounded anti-hero who just wants everyone to leave him alone.
2. Charles Dance
Charles Dance seemed born to play the fearsome Tywin Lannister. From his very first screen appearance, Dance stole the show with his commanding presence. As the head of House Lannister, he was a complex character, ruthless and conniving.
Dance brought these qualities to life with ease, giving the audience a glimpse into the Lion's calculating mind and his unwavering determination to protect his family's legacy.
Dance played Tywin so convincingly that it's hard to imagine anyone else in the role. He perfectly captured the icy stare, calm voice, and aristocratic mannerisms that make it clear that the Lannister is not to be trifled with
1. Jack Gleeson
And of course, it would be impossible not to mention Jack Gleeson, who played one of the most repulsive figures in the entire series, Joffrey Baratheon.
The actor embodied the persona of a sadistic king who was despised by the entire realm. Gleeson's performance was so convincing that many viewers found it difficult to separate the actor from the character.
Gleeson gave Joffrey incredible depth, making him not just a one-dimensional villain, but accurately conveying the pettiness and cruelty of the character, making him impossible to sympathize with.
