This fairy tale is complete and the second season would probably have ruined it.

Fascinating fictional worlds and the magical creatures that inhabit them are a common topic for many fantasy projects. Even before Game of Thrones and Supernatural, at the very beginning of the 21st century, there was a series about a fairy tale universe that comes into contact with our reality.

Now, 24 years later, this project has (rightly) become a favorite of many fantasy fans, reminiscent of carefree childhood and the time when we still believed in magic. And that project is The 10th Kingdom.

What is The 10th Kingdom About?

A New York cafe waitress, Virginia, rescues a dog one day that turns out to be the enchanted Prince Wendell, who has fled to our world from the land of the Nine Kingdoms to escape his stepmother, the Evil Queen. The Prince is Snow White's grandson and the direct heir to the throne, but the Queen has her own plans.

She sends evil trolls to kill the prince, and they have no choice but to get acquainted with our world. So, unexpectedly for herself, an ordinary modern girl Virginia finds herself at the center of incredible fantastic events.

The 10th Kingdom Was Canceled by NBC Due to Low Ratings

Long before the TV series Once Upon a Time began its ironic take on the classic tales of the Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault, The 10th Kingdom did the same. Unfortunately, the show turned out to be quite short – only five hour and a half episodes.

The fact is that at the time of its release its ratings were low, so NBC decided not to make a second season.

The 10th Kingdom Doesn't Need a Second Season

The 10th Kingdom is a completely finished work, created exactly as its creators intended. And yet, this huge magical world, in which good old fairy tales and their heroes were seen in a new light, sank deep into the viewers' hearts. The 10th Kingdom now has a near-perfect 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. And, of course, the huge army of fans would really, really like to see a second season.

But this prospect should be considered with great caution. After all, the continuation of a beautifully completed story by force is the way to the dark and deep abyss of the TV shows' spin-offs and sequels that destroyed the nostalgic feelings of viewers and brought nothing new to the original project. It's better to watch for the hundredth time the only, but perfect season of The 10th Kingdom.
