Still, she's not opposed to starring in another superhero movie.

Summary:

  • Kirsten Dunst, known for her role as Mary Jane in Sam Raimi 's Spider-Man trilogy, has revealed that the crew on the set used a nickname she didn't enjoy at all.
  • She has since shifted her focus to more indie films, including Elizabethtown and Marie Antoinette.
  • Dunst is not opposed to appearing in another superhero movie, but only for financial reasons.

Kirsten Dunst gained recognition for her role as Mary Jane in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. It's been a long time, and since then she has completely changed her career path, acting in more indie films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Marie Antoinette, and Lars von Trier's Melancholia.

However, the reality of starring in a superhero movie was not as rosy as it might seem at first glance.

In her recent interview for Marie Claire, the actress admitted that she had a nickname, that bothered her.

“It was a joke, but on Spider-Man, they would call me 'girly-girl' sometimes on the walkie-talkie,” Dunst shared.

It was obvious that this confession was not an easy one for the actress. Luckily, nowadays, Kirsten knows how to stand up for herself, though realizing her self-worth took time, especially as a young woman in the old days of Hollywood.

The actress realized that the whole “superhero blockbuster star” path was not what she wanted to be, which was the reason for her unexpected career change.

So Dunst turned her attention to more in-depth roles in indie films such as Cameron Crowe's tragicomedy Elizabethtown and Coppola's Marie Antoinette. These also brought her several award nominations, such as a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Interview with the Vampire.

Kirsten Dunst has nothing against the superhero genre, despite the unpleasant situation on the set of Spider-Man. As for why she might want to return, well, that's a funny one.

“You get paid a lot of money, and I have two kids, and I support my mother,” the actress said.
