2 Brand New Apocalypse TV Shows Dominate Prime AND Netflix's Top Charts
Amid everything that’s been going on lately, we’re not surprised the apocalypse genre makes a triumphant return now on different streaming platforms.
Summary:
- On Prime Video, new post-apocalyptic TV show Fallout is dominating the chart at the first spot.
- On Netflix, a South Korean apocalypse series Parasyte: The Grey is doing the same.
- The once-popular genre is making yet another comeback across several streaming platforms.
Apocalypse. Post-apocalypse. They’re all back, everybody! Thankfully, only on our small screens, but the resurgence in the genre’s popularity is hard to deny. Right now, there are two very different shows dominating two very different streaming platforms, and the only thing they have in common is their main topic: the apocalypse and the common folks’ struggle to survive in all its messiness.
Fallout Takes the Prime Video Throne
Only a few days old, Prime Video’s latest big thing, the Fallout TV show, is going strong. The show based on the video game series of the same name, it follows three characters in a world torn apart by a massive nuclear war as they navigate the inhospitable Wasteland, face its many dangers and treacheries, and make friends and enemies along the way to their primary goal: survival in this cursed reality.
Since its premiere on April 10, Fallout has been dominating Prime Video’s global chart: the new TV show has been consistently sitting on the first spot. There’s a good reason for it, too: despite being based on a video game series, this gem is welcoming to both OG fans and newcomers alike. Fallout currently boasts a 94% Tomatometer and an 88% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Parasyte: The Grey Rules Over Netflix
Over on Netflix, a very different but still pretty damn apocalyptic series continues its reign. South Korean TV show Parasyte: The Grey follows the events of an alien attack on Earth where mysterious parasites take over their human hosts to increase their power and hunt down other humans — and the one young woman whose parasite didn’t succeed in controlling her, resulting in a weird symbiosis.
Just like Fallout on Prime Video, Parasyte: The Grey has been dominating Netflix’s chart since its April 5 premiere. On Rotten Tomatoes, the new South Korean series is doing even better, maintaining the perfect 100% Critic Score and complementing it with a solid 88% Audience Score. The apocalypse genre is really making a sudden comeback, but that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
