Let's face it - the Oscars are not indicative of the quality of the film, as the awards are really given to films with the best marketing teams, not the best stories or actors.

And while the Best Picture statuettes are quite revered among movie buffs, a huge number of the films that win them are actually quite grueling to watch - they are massive in scope and ambition, but they will put you to sleep faster than Ambien, leaving you clueless as to why the academics decided to award them in the first place.

Before you accuse us of hating on the universally acclaimed movies, we are not actually saying that the above movies are bad, but we will stand our ground in describing them as ridiculously boring.

Yes, both "Barry Lyndon" and "2001: A Space Odyssey" are great movies, but you have to be in a certain mood to enjoy them, which certainly takes away a few points from them as Oscar-winning films. After all, the Oscars have always been about the mainstream, so it's quite strange to see really artistic movies being awarded there.

But even though Kubrick's films have a lot of positive qualities, the same can't be said for snoozefests like "Shakespeare in Love'' and "Out of Africa," which only won awards because their producers somehow managed to convince the critics that these boring movies were actually great. Yikes.
