10 Years Ago, Fox Cut Cord on This Perfect Sci-Fi Drama After Only 1 Season
This project had a great deal of potential, but its time on the air was far too short.
Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, long winter evenings by the window, filled with loneliness, a bucket of ice cream: who hasn't been there? This is what happens to fans of TV shows that end in the most interesting place.
You have just begun to feel for the characters, understand all the intricacies of the plot, recognize the theme song from the first seconds, when a merciless message arrives: the series is canceled. Fortunately, TV shows can't just disappear, so true fans continue to revisit the projects that gave us so many pleasant memories. But is it enough?
Karl Urban 's Best Role Before The Boys Was in an Exciting Sci-Fi Drama
Karl Urban rarely had real luck with the projects he took part in. If it hadn't been for the TV series The Boys, in which he played Billy Butcher who had already become his calling card, it might have seemed that some kind of evil fate was following him.
But the fact remains: the New Zealand actor was always somewhere near the successful roles, starring in many cult films like The Lord of the Rings, but too often one step away from truly shining on screen. Something similar happened with the Fox series Almost Human released in 2013, in which he played one of his best roles.
What is Almost Human About?
According to the plot, by 2048, technology has progressed so far that it has become a problem. The criminals have begun to use the new technologies so successfully that the police was forced to recruit androids.
John Kennex is an ordinary cop who has his own scores to settle with artificial intelligence. During one of his operations, he was ambushed and lost his partner and a leg due to the android's refusal to help because the chances of survival were too slim. Then, after a coma and partial memory loss, he learns that he was paired with a robot.
Almost Human Was Canceled by Fox Due to Low Ratings
The low ratings of Almost Human are one of the biggest TV mysteries of the last decade. When the pilot episode of this fantastic detective story was shown at Comic-Con, most viewers were thrilled. This show had everything it needed to stay on the air for a long time: a strong plot, charismatic actors, and excellent humor, but somehow this did not affect viewer interest, and the project was canceled by Fox after 13 episodes.
