10 Sci-Fi Movies That Were Never Made for the Most Bizarre Reasons
We love good and unconventional sci-fi, but, sadly, some of the most promising movies were announced but ended up being canceled.
And the reasons for cancellation in these cases were quite unorthodox. Maybe even more unorthodox than these movies promised to be.
One may think that science fiction is universally adored, but the box office says otherwise. The reason is that sci-fi often needs very high budgets to properly visualize the idea behind it, and it makes some of the projects seem overly ambitious, which in turn leads to their cancellation in the planning stage, even before the production starts.
But there were cases of sci-fi movies being canceled right before the release when they were almost fully produced. Most of the time studios are just playing it safe and axe the projects when they show even the slightest signs of flopping, trying to save the money.
Not always the potential financial disaster is the issue, though: filmmakers themselves sometimes believe that their projects are not viable either due to the competition or they just abandon them due to creative differences. And sometimes, these projects were just pitched wrongly and at the wrong time. Happens to the best of us.
