10 Old-School TV Shows You Definitely Watched in Your Childhood
There's a lot of nostalgia, maybe even too much. We warned you!
Do you miss the atmosphere of childhood and the feeling of a carefree and happy life where the best is yet to come?
We have selected ten shows that will take you back 20 years from the first seconds of the opening title.
1. The 10th Kingdom, 2000
Virginia is an ordinary waitress from New York City. One day, on her way to work, she accidentally hits a dog that can talk. The dog says that he is actually a prince, and soon the trolls and the Wolf will come for him.
The mini-series is based on the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, and an attentive viewer will find many references. The enchanted prince turns out to be the grandson of Snow White, and in one episode the Wolf tries to bribe Virginia's father with magic beans.
2. One Tree Hill, 2003-2012
Two teenagers, the leader Nathan and the humble Lucas, end up on the same basketball team. Boys can't stand each other, so such a situation can lead to problems. The boys are not only connected by school and sports, but also by kinship: Lucas and Nathan share a father.
For his role in this series, Chad Michael Murray left another popular show, Gilmore Girls. There he played a confident guy Tristin who was about to start a love affair with the main character Rory. One Tree Hill will appeal to those still mourning a failed romance: here, Chad's character has a lot of screen time.
3. Xena: Warrior Princess, 1995-2001
Once a merciless raider, Xena is now a brave warrior who travels the lands of the ancient world protecting the innocent. While saving a small village from raiders, she meets Gabrielle. The girl admires the warrior's courage and leaves her home, fiancé and quiet life to follow her.
The character of Xena first appeared in another project, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, where she played a villain whom Hercules convinced to join the good side. As a result, viewers got a show about a strong, independent woman who knows how to use a sword.
4. H20: Just Add Water, 2006-2010
Three Australian schoolgirls live by the sea, but during a full moon they accidentally end up on the mysterious island. Trying to get out, they swim through an underground lake, and the next day they discover that if even a drop of water gets on their skin, the girls become mermaids.
H2O became the first popular project about girls who combined life under water with studying at a regular school. It also launched the careers of Claire Holt and Phoebe Tonkin, who would go on to capture the hearts of fans on The Vampire Diaries.
5. The O.C., 2003-2007
Ryan, a guy from a dysfunctional family, finds himself in Orange County, a picturesque area for the rich. Attorney Sandy Cohen takes him into his family. Ryan must embark on a journey to change for the better, make new friends, fall in love with local beauty Marissa, and see what is really hidden behind the luxurious facades.
Besides being a classic of the 2000s, The O.C. has a lot of famous actors in it: Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt plays a charming hippie, and Paul Wesley, who won viewers' hearts in The Vampire Diaries, appears as the bad guy.
6. Smallville, 2001-2011
Clark Kent is found as an infant in a cornfield by Jonathan and Martha Kent, a couple who dream of having children. Later it is revealed that the hero flew to Smallville on a spaceship during a meteor shower. Growing up among humans, he tries to become an ordinary schoolboy and not show superpowers, but hiding super speed and incredible strength is not so easy.
Smallville was one of the first successful TV series based on superhero comic books. Tom Welling, who played the role of Clark, became the main superhero of our childhood, although he never appeared in a cape and with the letter S on his chest.
7. My So-Called Life, 1994-1995
Fifteen-year-old Angela Chase is a good girl, an exemplary student, and an obedient daughter. One day she realizes that her life is incredibly boring. Becoming friends with Rayanne, a smart girl who is not used to following rules, becomes her way to freeing herself. Angela moves away from her childhood friends, dyes her hair and becomes a completely different person.
An important reason to watch the show is its cast: for example, the main school's handsome boy and bully is played by young Jared Leto.
8. Beverly Hills, 90210, 1990-2000
When twins Brandon and Brenda Walsh and their family move from Minnesota to Los Angeles, they are thrust into a completely different society and environment – and into the company of rich kids. The vibrant city life that initially charmed the twins will soon fade under the harsh reality.
Beverly Hills, 90210 can be called the first ancestor of the shows where teenagers face adult problems. Later, The O.C. and Gossip Girl will be released, which will also become hits. But it is Beverly Hills, 90210 that will remain a classic of the genre.
9. Sabrina the Teenage Witch, 1996-2003
Sixteen-year-old Sabrina Spellman discovers that she is a hereditary witch, that her aunts are witches, and that her beloved cat can talk. Now she must learn to deal with her power and try to keep the secret in order to lead a normal teenage life.
While Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed showed a dark witchy world with endless enemies and evil to be destroyed, Sabrina took a different path. The magic in this show is fun, even as the main character faces challenges.
10. Out of This World, 1987-1991
Evie seems no different from her peers, so few people suspect that she actually has the gift of magic. However, the girl doesn't always use her talent in the right way. Evie lives with her mother, who, unlike her daughter, is an ordinary woman named Donna. Well, not quite ordinary. After all, she conceived a child from... an alien.
A sitcom similar to Sabrina the Teenage Witch – without witches, but with magic. Now, the jokes may seem too naive and childish, so feel free to show this series to your kids.
