Blue Bloods includes some of the most believable details in TV show history that definitely check out in the real world. Do we need to raise the “sarcasm” banner?

10. Only the Reagans Work in Law Enforcement

From how often (read: all the time) Danny, Erin, and Jamie’s cases intersect, you’d guess that apart from the Reagans, there aren’t any other law enforcement professionals in the entirety of New York City. If there’s a case, it just goes straight to the Reagans — and we’re not even talking about another problem that implies… Yet.

9. Conflict of Interests Legally Doesn’t Exist

Building upon the previous point… Erin and Jack are always opposing each other in court despite being ex-wife and husband. Danny barges into Erin’s office pleading with her to give him a warrant despite their being siblings. Blue Bloods once looked at the concept of “conflict of interests” and threw it away because it was plain boring.

8. Everyone Is the Flash & Time Doesn’t Exist

In Blue Bloods, time is another useless concept: it only exists when it comes to the iconic Sunday dinner scenes. Apart from that, everyone teleports around New York in a matter of minutes, and the DA’s office and courts are printing decisions like there’s no tomorrow — as if canonically, every character is at least the Flash’s equal.

7. Direct Orders Are Optional Suggestions

Even children know that in law enforcement, orders don’t mean anything. If your superior wants you to do something, they can’t but suggest you do it. Otherwise, there’s no way to explain how throughout many seasons, Eddie is consistently able to disobey direct orders and get away with it without any repercussions at all.

6. Protocols Were Written for the Fun of It

The same goes for police protocols. They are basically a list of vague guidelines written by the people who don’t really care if anyone follows them. Danny Reagan has not spent a single day following the protocols, but his superiors barely ever pay attention to that. Why? Danny’s just that good, that’s why. What were you thinking?

5. Police Detectives Are Killing Machines

While Frank Reagan loves to quote the statistics that claim that 95% of the policemen don’t get to fire their guns throughout their entire careers, that’s nothing but a joke. Danny Reagan kills or at least shoots a couple of people every single episode, and his body count is not discussed — since it’s perfectly realistic, that is.

4. There’s Always One Reagan Per Square Foot

Whenever something happens in New York City, there’s always a Reagan around. It doesn’t matter what sort of incident goes down; someone from the Reagan family will most likely be there. That’s one of the law enforcement’s best crime-fighting tactics: in NYC, they strategically place one Reagan per square foot to better cover the area.

3. Police and Attorneys Don’t Work on Sundays

Every Sunday, the entire Reagan family — or, at least, its core members — gather together for their traditional dinner. How is it possible that all these law enforcement professionals no one ever works on Sundays, especially during dinner? That’s because the police and the DA’s office are closed on the weekends, you see.

2. New York City Has Great Parking Space

In Blue Bloods, no one ever struggles to find parking spots in the most populated city of the United States: they just drive right up to wherever they need to go, park in a conveniently empty place, and go about their business. That’s a subtle reference to the fact that New York City has great parking space and very few cars to fill it.

1. Air Access Isn’t Necessary for Breathing

Most importantly, Frank Reagan proves common biological misconceptions wrong with his very existence. The Commish particularly tackles the misbelief that in order to live, humans require access to oxygen. If you look at Frank, you’ll see that even with how tightly his tie is sitting on his neck, he feels perfectly well and can breathe.
