10 Most Disturbing Non-Horror Movies That Should Be On Your Watchlist

Not only horror movies can make you feel a bit chilly after you finish watching it.

Sometimes, what you need to feel disturbed is a highly emotional portrayal of loss, a heart-wrenching drama, or just something that would keep your nerves on high alert.

The human psyche is extremely flexible, and in combination with empathy and imagination the effect that some of the disturbing things may have on a viewer can be called nothing but disturbing.

It's how we're wired, and seasoned, professional filmmakers know how to evoke a certain emotional response from their audiences. We don't necessarily need metric tons of blood splashing on the screen for ours to feel frozen in fear.

Sometimes, fear can be instilled in a different way. It can be explored through the portrayal of horrific things that don't necessarily require a bloodbath happening on the screen — but you know that it exists outside of it. You're not being shown the torture itself, but you feel the tension of knowing that it's a part of the story, and if you're not seeing it now, it doesn't mean that the characters won't experience it.

The human drama, the real, vivid emotions are the scariest things.
