Joe Wright's biopic starring Gary Oldman as Churchill was finally the movie that brought the actor the critical acclaim he deserved and won him the Academy Award for Best Actor. In his film, Wright decided not to tell the whole story of the politician, but rather to focus on a specific pre-election period of his life.

3. Heneral Luna

Directed by Jerrold Tarog, the movie is actually based on real events and even real people. It is a biopic that follows General Antonio Luna at his best and at his worst times. Luna was the one who encountered tremendous opposition from his own nation while at the same time fighting for their freedom.

While watching the movie we get to find more about the times when the Un were at their peacekeeping mission in Angola. The film has been highly acclaimed by fans and critics for its stunning storytelling, realistic events, and powerful action scenes. What adds to its value is the fact that the movie is based on real-life events and is inspired by the real military force titled PASKAL.

The movie is uncharacteristically short for the genre, only lasting a little over an hour and a half, but we guarantee you that's more than enough time to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the documentary. The film tells a heartbreaking story of how war can affect a soldier's family, making them suffer from separation and living in constant danger.

6. Sand Castle

The movie starring Henry Cavill was born when its writer, Chris Roessner, decided to tell his life story. The plot of the film revolves around a young U.S. Army soldier who is sent to Baghdad in the midst of the Iraq War. The task he was assigned seemed easy, he just needed to resupply the water supplies in the small village there, but it was something more in the store for him. The later events ended up breaking him to pieces.

7. Beasts of No Nation

From award-winning director Cary Joji Fukunaga, Beasts of No Nation is a classic war movie with never-ending battles. It focuses on a young boy by the name of Agu who is caught in the middle of a horrific civil war in West Africa.

The audience witnesses the terrible and truly heartbreaking story of a boy forced to become a soldier. He has no choice as he sees his country being torn apart, it's the only thing he's sure he can do to help his people. The movie leaves you terrified and full of empathy for this boy with a broken life.

8. The Siege of Jadotville

This movie focuses on the role of the Irish Army in a UN peacekeeping mission in Congo. This is an example of a movie that explores a subject that is always forgotten in the midst of so many military events that mankind has gone through. The movie stars Jamie Dornan and you may enjoy him more here than in the controversial hit movie that we won’t name here (you get it).

9. Outlaw King

This movie will be highly appreciated by all Braveheart fans as it gives the audience another look at the bloody history of Scotland. The film begins with the desire of another rebel, Robert the Bruce, to win their country back. In order to achieve what he wants, he assembles several lords who he can trust and with their help he slowly wins the war and they all return to their motherland.

10. First They Killed My Father

The best thing about this powerful movie is that it gives a first-person perspective on the Vietnam War which is still considered to be holding many secrets. It is a movie with Angelina Jolie as a director, and it tells the childhood story of Cambodian author Loung Ung and her life under the horrific regime in the 1970s.
