10 Game of Thrones Characters Fans Really Wanted to Die in Pain
Game of Thrones has some of the most ridiculously infuriating characters, and fans spent half of their watchtime praying to the Seven their fates would be insufferable.
10. Theon Greyjoy
Theon might have seemed like a chill guy and the Starks’ best friend at the beginning of the show… But his horrendous betrayal of his foster family (we blame Tyrion for it) immediately saw fans wish death upon Theon. Surprisingly, his fate was even more gruesome than the most devoted Stark fans could have imagined.
9. Petyr Baelish
Littlefinger has been slimy since Day One, but fans were yet to learn just how insidious this scheme master truly was. Petyr Baelish didn’t stop before anything to further the chaos in the Seven Kingdoms, and his many perversions, betrayals, and backstabs earned him a place on many more kill lists than just Arya Stark’s.
8. Roose Bolton
Speaking of backstabs, we have Roose Bolton. This vassal of the Starks was far from a prominent figure in the game of thrones, and everyone was fine with him — until Roose took the knife and gutted out Robb Stark and his entire family. That harrowing betrayal’s shock could only compare with Lord Eddard’s execution.
7. Cersei Lannister
You know the actor did a great job when you can’t help but hate their character while also admitting them. Cersei Lannister cared for nothing but her own power, but, as her father Lord Tywin remarked, she wasn’t as clever as she’d imagined. Still, the sheer number of crimes she committed to stay on top made fans totally despise her.
6. Walder Frey
It’s quite amusing how much hate can be aimed toward a character who had like ten minutes of screen time. Walder Frey could have become a valuable ally to Robb, but he chose to betray the Starks together with Roose Bolton. The Red Wedding made all fans write down their list of hit targets for Arya, and Lord Frey was its number one.
5. Alliser Thorne
The Severus Snape of the Night’s Watch, Sir Allister was a Thorne in Jon Snow’s bottom from the moment the bastard set foot at the Wall. Hateful, ignorant, and cruel, Alliser Thorne was willing to go to any lengths to stay in power. It was only a matter of time until he’d made a move against Jon, and his demise was appropriate.
4. Euron Greyjoy
Thanks to being severely downgraded from his book version, the TV show’s Euron Greyjoy was more of an infuriating annoyance than a bone-chilling menace. Still, this bloodthirsty and clinically insane pirate boiled many fans’ blood, and his obnoxious attitude even made us sympathize with other unexpected hateful characters.
3. Gregor Clegane
Oh, The Mountain… Fans might not have liked this giant warrior from the start on the vibe level, but when his heinous deeds were revealed, he became the target of everyone’s hatred. The murder of Oberyn Martell only added fuel to the flame, and until the very end, we were all rooting for anyone who’d dare go against Sir Gregor.
2. Joffrey Baratheon
The spoiled brat turned unhinged psychopath, Joffrey Baratheon was sadistic, pathetic, and cowardly. All those charming qualities, combined with his terrible attitude to Sansa Stark and Tyrion Lannister, made him the Public Enemy Number One for most fans. It almost wasn’t possible to hate anyone more than Joffrey…
1. Ramsay Bolton
…Almost, but not entirely impossible. Joffrey Baratheon walked so that Ramsay Bolton could run, and run he did — right to the top of every single fan’s hate list. Worse tenfold, Ramsay was a true connoisseur of suffering and torture, and his scenes were often physically painful to watch. Especially when sausages were involved, speaking of Theon’s disproportionally terrifying fate.
