Or else all hope is lost for Port Charles.

Now in its 60th year on ABC, General Hospital will forever remain one of the most iconic American soap operas of all time. However, like any other show, it has had its ups and downs throughout its run. Unfortunately, the entire era of Chris Van Etten and Dan O'Connor as head writers will forever be considered a major flop by viewers.

Luckily, 2024 has brought some good news to fans, as ABC has announced new writers to take control of the show. The episodes, written under the direction of Patrick Mulcahey and current General Hospital script editor Elizabeth Korte, will begin airing on March 4, and viewers are ready to see some improvements.

Here are 10 things General Hospital fans are most excited to see addressed.

More Liz Webber

As portrayed by Rebecca Herbst, Elizabeth Webber has always been one of the fan's favorite characters. However, as the show has progressed, we have seen less and less of her on screen, always eclipsed by either Sonny, Carly and their ever-changing partners, or the younger residents such as Trina and Spencer.

Lower Fertility Levels

We get it, soaps need more people to procreate in order to continue the character's legacy. By aging all the babies in the future, it would be easy to bring more young people into the mix. But right now, Port Charles is experiencing a baby boom like never before, and it would be nice to get a break to deal with adult stuff.

New Love Interest for Trina

We all love Sprina, but now that Spencer is gone, she shouldn't be pushed into the corner and forgotten. Trina needs to grow, get more experience and more partners, whether they are good or bad for her. It was devastating to see her given so little time to mourn her on-screen lover, so the least the new writers can do is give her a storyline of her own.

More Young Adults

Speaking of new love interests, it would be much more fun to see someone new come to Port Charles instead of pairing Trina with someone the audience already knows. The show, now primarily run by Sonny, Carly, Nina, and Drew, has had enough of the granny wars. It's time to shake things up.

Fashion Revision

To be fair, the show has already blessed viewers with some great outfits, hair and makeup looks in recent weeks, so fans are hoping that the new head writers will keep things the same. Of course, all the characters are different, and they will all have different wardrobe preferences, but the 2010s accessories and patterns need to go.

Justice for Ava Jerome

To portray nothing but Nina's best friends for months and still do it flawlessly should pay off somehow. Ava deserves as much screen time as her friend without being overshadowed by anyone. Hopefully the new writers will see her worth and give her a decent arc with some unexpected twists along the way.

Queer Stories Matter

While it's hard to say that General Hospital discriminates against Kistina and Blaze in any way, since the writers don't seem to care about any other couple, it would be nice to see the characters act more organically. This romance is so important to so many people that it hurts to see it poorly written.

Joss and Dex Romance

As Sprina is now gone, Jex has all the potential to become the new IT couple of Port Charles. They are hot, they have a lot of chemistry together and a huge potential for exploring. The only issue is, old writers didn’t know how to move them forward, and which direction to take. Hopefully, the new ones will be more decisive.

New Major Villains

All viewers tend to see in the last few weeks is bickering between the characters. While no soap can ever exist without strong interpersonal relationships, romantic drama and intrigue, too much of a good thing is always bad. What General Hospital needs is a major shake-up and a strong, ruthless villain to put everyone in danger.

Carly Corinthos Reboot

Whether you like it or not, you have to admit that Carly's favoritism is very apparent in the show. She's always forgiven, she doesn't suffer any consequences for her actions, and somehow she doesn't even seem to realize her misdeeds. With such a large cast, it's a shame that only one character gets this treatment.
