10 Best TV Cliffhangers That Stopped Our Hearts For A Second
They don't have a right to be so painfully good.
A great cliffhanger can make or break a season, leaving viewers eager to see what happens next.
Here are our top 10 memorable TV cliffhangers that left us on the edge of our seats (and some of them are still keeping us there).
1. The Office: Pam and Jim Kiss
Admit it, how many times have you watched that scene from Season 2? After so many episodes of undeniable tension, viewers finally got what they deserved.
A love confession and a first kiss in one episode? Double it and give it to us again, please.
2. Breaking Bad: The Hunting Begins
Episode 8 of season 5 sees the beginning of Walter White's downfall as Hank finally connects the dots between his brother in law and infamous Heisenberg.
3. Stranger Things: Hopper Sacrifices Himself
The dramatic ending of season three gave us not one but two horrific deaths. First Billy, Max's brother, is killed by the Spider Monster, and then Hopper blows up in a chamber with a bomb.
We had to wait almost 3 years to finally find out that he wasn't truly dead. It was a hell of a ride.
4. The Walking Dead: Maggie Loses Everything
You might have thought which episode we are exactly talking about, as too many cliffhangers were bound with Maggie losing everyone she loves.
But this one in season 4 is one of the heartbreakers. As the Governor's forces attack the prison and kill off Hershel, Maggie's dad.
5. Friends: The Wedding Scene
Imagine watching a main character's wedding and hearing him saying the wrong woman's name right at the altar to his fiancé's face.
That's how dramatic we want cliffhangers to be.
6. Grey's Anatomy: Plane Crash
Season 8 puts Meredith, Derek, Cristina, Lexie, Mark, and Arizona on a plane to assist in a surgery in Boise and ends with a plane crash scene, leaving viewers wondering which of their favorite characters survived.
7. Lost: The Bomb
Season 5 gives the viewers the episode where we see a confrontation between Jacob and the Man in Black. It ends with a total explosion as Juliet tries to save everyone and detonates a bomb.
And she does, she saves everyone but herself.
8. Game of Thrones: The White Walkers' Invasion
Our favorite so far. The end of season seven gave us so many chills and left us wondering who would survive the battle. It literally seemed like it was the end for every human being on the show and a great starting point for the GoT finale.
Turns out we were wrong in both ways.
9. Sherlock: The Reichenbach Fall
Nothing could prepare us for this season 2 finale. Jumping off a roof to save your best friend's life is another level of friendship.
And who cares that you made the whole thing up and let your BFF think you were really dead after he saw your disfigured body on the ground? That's still a boss move from Sherlock.
10. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Demonic Portal
The 100th episode of the show was truly a gift to the fans — the gift you never want to receive. The fifth season ends with Buffy jumping into a demonic portal to save the world. Why are good characters always trying to sacrifice themselves?
It's painful for the fans, don't they know that?
