10 Animated Shows Like Rick and Morty to Watch After S7 Is Over
No, not The Simpsons or South Park.
To avoid rubbing salt in the wound by reviewing previous episodes of Rick and Morty, we suggest switching to something similar in topic but different in vibe – something lighter or, on the contrary, even tougher and darker.
1. Superjail!
Blood, humor, gore, ultra-violence and total psychedelia – that's what this show is all about. And don't say we didn't warn you. The head of the prison, which is located inside a volcano, is constantly conducting crazy experiments on the prisoners, but each time everything is ruined by the twins who live underground. As you might have guessed, this cannot end well.
If you love Rick and Morty not for its witty references but for its pacing, chaos and inventive violence, Superjail! will seem like a masterpiece to you.
2. Invader Zim
A children's animation from Nickelodeon (don't rush to pass on it) once was a big hit. It is a science fiction story about the alien Zim, whose only mission is to invade Earth alone for the approval of his superiors.
The only problem is that he is extremely unlucky, suffers from megalomania and fails at even the most basic things.
3. The Midnight Gospel
This animated show is for when you don't have the patience or time for multi-season shows. Netflix 's surreal project follows the character Clancy, who lives and travels in a simulator of the universe.
The coolest part is that the writers (the creators of Adventure Time, by the way) use the characters to raise serious questions about the meaning of life and death. There will definitely be something to think about.
4. The Venture Bros.
Dean and Hank are the Venture brothers, but the plot of the show is built around their father, Rusty, who has made great strides in cloning and robotics. His unusual developments have attracted the attention of criminals, and Rusty is now forced to protect his entire family from them.
There are no restrictions: key characters die, villains and heroes constantly change roles, details from the Venture family's past are revealed that radically change the viewer's view of what is happening.
5. Solar Opposites
If you watch Hulu 's Solar Opposites closely, you might think you've tuned in to a new episode of Rick and Morty. In fact, the two shows share a writer – Justin Roiland. The project tells the story of a family of aliens who must escape from their perfect planet to Earth (a little less perfect).
Solar Opposites has everything you love about Rick and Morty, but from a slightly different perspective. There is definitely no less absurd humor, but endless references and depression are missing.
6. Regular Show
You can only envy Mordecai the blue jay and Rigby the raccoon: they try to live their lives by doing nothing. Of course, they have jobs, but they keep avoiding them, which makes their boss incredibly angry. To stay out of trouble and catch up, the friends always turn to the wise yeti Skips for help.
7. Metalocalypse
If you are a fan of heavy metal music, this is not easy for you. No one knows your favorite band. The music you like isn’t on the radio, but only from your headphones. You probably wanted to know what a world would look like where metal became the most popular music. And Metalocalypse opens the door to such a world.
The fictional band Dethklok plays only death metal music. Despite their specific sound, the guys have a lot of fans. The fans literally go crazy for the songs of their favorite band and are willing to do anything their idols say. This is one of the reasons why Dethklok's concerts often end badly.
8. Black Dynamite
The main character, named Black Dynamite (duh), is a police officer who does not live by the rules. Together with a pimp friend, he built a safe brothel for his charges, and in his free time, Dynamite hunts ninjas and solves crimes.
The main feature of the animation is its take on the action movies of the 70s, which makes it look naively funny.
9. Mr. Pickles
The animated show is not for everyone, even if you like Rick Sanchez's crude humor. Mister Pickles has a lot of shock content, dismemberment, blood and pentagrams.
The show itself is about a dog who leads a double life: for his owner, he is an obedient friend, but in reality the pet is an undercover Satanist. And the most amazing thing is that he is not even the most evil in this series.
10. Steven Universe
Steven Universe is Rick and Morty growing up in a universe of unicorns. At the same time, the show is no less fascinating and sometimes amazes with the imagination of the creators.
The plot revolves around Steven and his three friends who call themselves the Crystal Gems. The group saves the world from evil, and at the same time, we learn a little more about the inhabitants of their hometown.
