Zoolander 3: Will the Fashion-Challenged Hero Return to the Big Screen?
The comeback everyone didn't ask for, but secretly wants.
It's been nearly 20 years since the first Zoolander film graced the silver screen, and fans of the iconic comedy are wondering if there will ever be a third installment. Actress Christine Taylor, who played Matilda Jeffries in the first two films, recently shared her thoughts on the matter with E! Insider.
According to Taylor, the interest in Zoolander seems to be cyclical, with fans rediscovering the film every 10 to 15 years.
The first film was released just after 9/11 and did not perform well at the box office, but it gained a cult following in the years that followed. Similarly, the second film, Zoolander 2, was not a major success when it was released in 2016, but fans have since become obsessed with it.
Taylor goes on to suggest that the success of the Zoolander franchise may be a "slow burn," and that a third film could be ahead of its time.
When it comes to the possibility of a Zoolander 3, Taylor says "I don't know that there's a Zoolander three in the near future." However, she also adds that "Zoolander always lives on," meaning the fans that would be most excited for a third film would be the ones that grew up with the first two films.
So, could there be a Zoolander 3 in the future? It's hard to say. While the film's fanbase may be dedicated and passionate, the box office performance of the first two films doesn't necessarily indicate a strong demand for a third film. However, as Taylor points out, the interest in the franchise seems to be cyclical, so perhaps in a few more years, fans will be clamoring for more Zoolander once again. Who knows, right?
