Buckle up Star Wars fans, it looks like we're in for a major rival to George Lucas' franchise.

From the stage of Gamescom 2023, director Zack Snyder unveiled a new trailer for his sci-fi blockbuster Rebel Moon, subtitled A Child of Fire. This will be the first movie of the dilogy, which will premiere on Netflix on December 22, 2023, and the sequel will be released on April 19, 2024.

But that wasn't the only news the director shared – Rebel Moon would also be the first Snyder movie to be adapted into a video game. So far, little is known, except that it will be an RPG developed by Super Evil Mega Corp. that will tell the story of the events that take place after the two movies.

But we know much more about A Child of Fire movie, which is undoubtedly what all Snyder fans are looking forward to.

The action takes place in a universe controlled by the corrupt government of the Mother World. Its power is supported by the army of the Imperium, which is subordinated to the regent Balisarius.

One day, soldiers of the Imperium, led by Balisarius' right-hand man, land on the peaceful planet Veldt and demand the entire harvest from the locals to feed the army. They are given several weeks to gather, but the locals have no intention of meekly submitting to the Imperium.

Farmer Gunnar and former Imperium soldier Kora set out together in search of warriors willing to help Veldt and perhaps finally defeat the Imperium.

The idea first came to Snyder in the 1980s when he was still a student. Zack wanted to do a project similar to Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, but in space. Snyder liked the template of the story: a small, peaceful community threatened with destruction by a powerful force and hiring warriors to protect themselves.

Since Netflix asked Snyder to develop a massive story with its own universe, Rebel Moon will continue if the first two movies do well. Besides, Snyder is not leaving the idea to make the Rebel Moon TV show, which can fill in the gaps in the characters' backstories, especially the rise of the tyrant Balisarius.
