Is Marie Moreau turning evil?

While waiting for season 4, The Boys fans are not invested in the recently premiered spinoff, Gen V. With three episodes out, fans are buzzing with speculations and theories. One interesting point has been recently brought up on Reddit: could Marie Moreau, the protagonist of the spinoff, eventually become a villain?

Marie Moreau is a freshman at Godolkin University, aiming to join The Seven someday. Marie's backstory is tragic. After her birth, her parents apparently allowed Vought to inject her with Compound V, turning her into a Supe.

At the tender age of 10, Marie's powers manifested in a catastrophic way, leading to the accidental death of her parents. This traumatic event left her and her sister, Annabeth, orphans. Marie's primary motivation to become a superhero stems from her guilt over her parents' deaths and her desire to redeem herself in her sister's eyes.

A recent Reddit post highlighted some key conversations Marie had with other characters, suggesting that she might be on the brink of turning to the dark side.

Goldenboy advises Marie to pursue superheroism only if it's genuinely her passion. This advice could shake her determination since her primary motivation to be a hero is to gain her sister's approval, not an internal desire.

Cate, on the other hand, indirectly challenges Marie's reasons for wanting to be a superhero. She points out that Marie's parents were responsible for their deaths, not Marie. This revelation might be the first time Marie considered that she might not be to blame for their deaths.

If we remove these two significant reasons driving Marie's desire to be a superhero, what's left? The answer might be Vought and the university's influence. They've been grooming her, making her comfortable with taking credit for things she hasn't done and prioritizing her ambitions over others.

Given the potential consequences of opposing Vought or the university, Marie might have enough justification to align with them.

Considering all these factors, it's plausible that Marie might face a pivotal moment in the future. She could either stand up against Vought/Godolkin or choose the path everyone seems to be nudging her towards. If she opts for the latter, we might see her evolve into a tragic antagonist in the upcoming seasons.

Do you see Marie as an antagonist?
