Do we really need a spinoff for a spinoff?

Summary:

  • Young Sheldon is a CBS sitcom that has been originally created as a prequel to The Big Bang Theory.
  • Through 6+ years on the air Young Sheldon has grown a massive following of its own.
  • Now that the show announced a sequel following Georgie and Mandy ’s lives, fans are confused on whether it was necessary.

Too much of a good thing can definitely turn bad, and many CBS viewers believe that is happening to The Big Bang Theory universe and a whole host of spinoffs that are now coming to life. Back in 2017, Young Sheldon was a logical choice to continue the show's legacy and further capitalize on the name of one of its most beloved characters.

Now, with the announcement of yet another sequel to the show that was originally created as a prequel, many viewers are simply confused. As much as people have enjoyed watching Georgie and Mandy, there aren't many who can call them their favorites.

As interesting as Georgie's business endeavors are, we already know that his personal life is doomed to failure.

So are viewers expected to sit through a few more seasons of the same old drama? Or is there something else going on that we just haven't figured out yet? So far, the Young Sheldon fandom has been nothing but thoroughly confused.

What Will the Young Sheldon Spinoff Be About?

According to all the news floating around the web, the new show will revolve around the married life of Georgie and Mandy. With the same trio that brought us The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon as producers, the show promises to keep the same vibe and style of humor.

While some are excited about the opportunity to relax with another lighthearted sitcom, others feel that CBS is going too far by building spinoff upon spinoff.

Even though there wasn't much information about Georgie in the original series, The Big Bang Theory, the new spinoff will most likely not follow the same restrictions. Which will eventually lead to tearing apart all the existing lore.

Besides, the setting of a family consisting of a lovable father and husband and a nagging mother doesn't feel fresh to the Young Sheldon audience. We've all been there with George and Mary; is there really a need for more of the same? With Mandy already a controversial character, this could be a disaster.

“They are side characters. I don't find them that interesting to star on their own show. Missy in high school would be more fun,” Redditor Pearl_Jam_ said.

That wasn't an unpopular opinion either. Now that Raegan Revord has confirmed that she was not invited to appear as Missy, many fear that we will never see Meemaw or Mary again. This would make the show feel disconnected from the rest of the franchise.

If you are interested in checking out the new spinoff, be sure to keep an eye out for news of its release. Until then, tune in to the final season of Young Sheldon on Thursdays on CBS.
